Finally cracked Google

I re-did my website and did some mild optimization to attract ranking from Google back in July. All during football season my site was buried several pages back even with combinations of search terms that should have been ideal for my site. I did get a 1600 hits from Yahoo last year, but only like 80 from Google.

Checked it today and all of the sudden they give me respect:

nlf forecast software: 1st
nfl predictiions software: 4th
nfl forecast predictions: 8th
"nfl forecast" 22nd

I'd really like to get on the front page of Google with just

nfl forecast
or
nfl predictions

But I should still get much more traffic next year than I did this year

But even with the new hits I should get from Google, I should still be able to maintain my current 400% growth rate for another year.

The main predictions on the playoff races that I made during 2006 are archived here:

The trick is to have proper keyword density. You are underutilizing your title bar with only NFL PREDICTIONS, you need to add additional keywords there.

Also, you should pepper those words through your index page a bit more.

And you should say NFL Football Predictions around also... people type in all kinds of shit.

Go to http://inventory.overture.com/d/sear...ry/suggestion/

type in NFL Prediction

Nfl week 14 prediction
NFL week 15 Prediction

if you have those archived also, you will get good visitors.

Hope that helps...

I'll probably do another round of tuning this year. What was so surprising was that it took 6 mos for the last set of tweaks to produce results, even though the bots had read my page several times within a month of making the changes. I'm thinking that pimping my site on Football Outsiders and a few other sites might have had a bigger effect. Appreciate the advice.

you should actually add a blog to your site.

Search engines love blogs. One of my sites gets several hundred hits a day just from Google.

Add a blog and talk about how correct your predictor is... and put Adsense on your site... PLUS you get repeat visitors... which are valuable.

Its no problem for a blog to make over $500 a month from Google Adsense alone.

If you want people to FIND you during game season... put some money in AdWords and get people to your NFL Forecast site.

Have some of site free, and sell the software or pay access;...

Also, using the list of NFL message boards and becoming a community member would allow you to also non-chalantly pimp your site.

Perhaps if you change it to nfl instead of nlf?

Good work. We went thru that process at last company.

Takes a little time to see results.
