****ing god --- is it December yet?

This will be better than LOTR.

It's a stronger, tighter story with less fluff.

And giving it 3 movies is genius.

Your ideas seem to contradict here.

It's stronger because it's tighter with less fluff... so let's string it out into 3 movies (by adding fluff and loosening it up?).

Anyway, I'm still a fanboy, so I'll go and enjoy. I'm actually really intrigued by the stretch into 3 movies and will be curious to see what they do with it.

Blasphemy!!
It's a great story, no doubt.. But less fluff so let's stretch it out for 3 movies?? Wat?

L.A. Chieffan 09-19-2012 10:23 AM

is it really three movies? out of one, not very long, book?

Whaaaat?

Should have just been a 3 hour movie. But I understand its a cash cow, so its a.business decision.

Hopefully its not just three more movies of Hobbits walking.

Well, not quite. It's The Hobbit plus parts of the Appendix from the Lord of The Rings, which goes into some detail regarding the events between the Dwarves being ousted by Smaug and the journey to the Lonely Mountain.

So three movies out of 1 and 1/3rd books. :D

The Franchise 09-19-2012 10:42 AM

It really should only be 2 movies.

Amnorix 09-19-2012 10:57 AM

The movies will stand or fall on their own. The movies don't have to precisely track the books, no matter what the purists think. If he adds new material (which he CLEARLY is doing, since there's all kinds of stuff that happen but are completely off-scene in the book but are being shown in the movie), then that's fine as long as the tone and tenor is consistent with Tolkien's world.

Changes only bother me when they literally make no sense. The Witch King breaking Gandalf's staff and blowing him off his horse in the extended version of RotK REALLY pisses me off. It makes no sense and seems to show that the Witch King is clearly more powerful than Gandalf. WTF is that about?

But otherwise, judge the movies for what they are. Jackson has earned a fair bit of latitude I think, given past success, and I hope he makes three really great, enjoyable movies.

I'm excited for it. I should have a LOTR marathon before this comes out.
