Kanye's "Yeezus" leaks

I know we have some HUGE 'Ye fans here on CP (I'm looking at you, bald bearded white dudes), so I thought I'd post the link to the leaked stream:

http://soundisstyle.com/2013/06/kany...um-stream.html

So far, I think neither his fans nor his detractors will be disappointed. :D

NewChief 06-14-2013 04:54 PM

Also, if you haven't read his interview with the NYT (it's like the first interview he's done in years), it's hilariously awesome. I can't decide if the guy is insane or a genius.

Here's some choice quotes from a Post article:
http://www.nypost.com/p/pagesix/the_...T7kpDmonyGmxHM
Quote:

Kanye West’s newest album is about to drop, and the rapper has stormed the press in anticipation of “Yeezus,” out June 18. While no one has ever accused West of being modest, he recently rambled absurd bon mots like how he’s the successor to Steve Jobs and is the Michael Jordan of music. Fans of Ye’s old Twitter feed should not be surprised at how quotable he is, but Page Six presents the six dumbest things West said in his recent New York Times interview.

1. On being a trendsetter: "I think what Kanye West is going to mean is something similar to what Steve Jobs means. I am undoubtedly, you know, Steve of Internet, downtown, fashion, culture. Period."

2. On his future: "I will be the leader of a company that ends up being worth billions of dollars, because I got the answers. I understand culture. I am the nucleus."

3. On social obligations: "Justice could just be clearing a path for people to dream properly. It could be clearing a path to make it fair within the arena that I play. You know, if Michael Jordan can scream at the refs, me as Kanye West, as the Michael Jordan of music, can go and say, 'This is wrong.'"

4. On his musical accomplishments: "I don’t know if this is statistically right, but I’m assuming I have the most Grammys of anyone my age, but I haven’t won one against a white person."

5. On his highly publicized baby with Kim Kardashian: “Like, this is my baby. This isn’t America’s baby.”

6. On why we should just let him be: “Like, I want the world to be better! All I want is positive! All I want is dopeness! Why would you want to control that?”

How does he pronounce his first name?

"Cane" or "Can Yee"?

I'll need to listen with headphones before I can say what I think. First impression is that it's kind of a challenging, offputting album so far. I like that kind of music, but I don't know if there are going to be a bunch of chart topping singles on this.

Sometimes the masses surprise me, though.

Kanye's genius is in his ability to distill pop cultural epochs into albums. His hyperbolic statements about himself as a some sort of cultural touchstone have a basis in reality.

I sometimes say it 'probably,' but in more rapid speech I say 'probly' and it sounds pretty much like 'prolly' because the b is barely pronounced.

The ASAP crew is promising as hell.
Black Hippie is badass.
OddFuture is great.
Danny Brown is awesome.

Those are relatively mainstream acts as well. If you get into underground stuff it gets even more interesting. Hiphop has become respected and respectable. The artists engaging in it are like 3rd generation, and they're smart as hell with their production. They're pushing the envelope. I'm old school. Met the Geto Boys. Saw MC Breed in concert. Saw ****ing Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer. Loved all that shit. Got into the whole Tribe/Native Tongues movement as well. Was listening to Life is Too Short in 8th grade.

I think rap is as good as it's ever been right now.

I'm going to respectfully disagree. I think it is significantly weaker mainly because of the guys I listed. There are some very talented MC's and some very talented producers, but those guys have been around for over 10 years. Just my humble opinion.

Did you listen to Kendrick Lamar's album last year? Have you listened to Chance the Rapper? Amazing 20 year old phenom that sort of encapsulates, to me, where rap is heading. Smart ass prep school type kids who have a huge musical vocabulary (he wears ****ing Grateful Dead shirts and tie dye and such) on which to draw. Here, listen to it free:

You could make the same argument for literally any genre.

All you gotta do is switch the Lil Wayne, 2Chainz, etc for shitty big name artists in whatever genre you want to talk about.

Uhh, two of these are not like the other two. Drake has one of the tightest flows of any rapper out there, mainstream or otherwise, and Kanye' s career could be considered a mega-success off his first 3 albums alone.

Anyway, thanks for the link. I fear my favorite Kanye days are over and he's slowly been slipping into insanity ( or something, idk ) since his mom died. If I could get another Graduation, I'd be good to go.

BryanBusby 06-15-2013 04:35 AM

Album would of been alright if he forgot to put the first six tracks on it.

Bound 2 is the best track on it.

I don't think "fame has gone to his head" has anything to do with this less than ideal album. If you try different shit, you're gonna end up disappointing here and there.

E: and before anyone asks, this is the song that's sampled in the track.

Why does it seem that people listen once and hate? Much like dark fantasy this is an album that needs a few listens before being fully appreciated. People are lazy. If its new and scary they call it shit, without giving it a proper chance.

That song was the standout track on my first listen. Sampling strange fruit in a song about Molly and abortion is borderline offensive.

The whole album, to me, seems like Kanye has been listening to a lot of El-p and Death Grips.

As others have pointed out: if Kim Kardashian inspired this album, then her and Kanye may not be an item long. Shit is bleak. Probably his most misogynistic album as well.

Nah, its not about being lazy. I loved Dark Fantasy right off the bat. It worked. In this new album, his word play just isnt as good and the a lot of the beats seem to be left over beats he just had lying around in the studio.

Reaper16 06-15-2013 09:34 AM

Musically, I'm not sure if I even like this album. I still have to listen on headphones. I do know that I'm intrigued by it. I want to keep listening to it. Even though it is derivative of Saul Williams, Death Grips, and Trent Reznor. It's a ****ing mess, but an idiosyncratic, magnetic mess.

Lyrically its his worst effort. A misogynist hodgepode of bullshit that would just as soon come out of the mouths of Lil Wayne or Childish Gambino. The ever-smart pop music critic Ann Powers said yesterday that she, as a woman, felt emotionally assaulted by the album, but wonders if that was the point -- that Kanye is aiming to make raw sexual hunger in pop music actually dangerous again.

Learn to read. I never said he had no talent. But he isnt that great. he joined up a wack group called Slaughterhouse and all his shit with them is awful.
