Top college MLB on ESPN tonight...

at 6:30 PM Central time.

Ahmad Brooks from Virginia. 6-4 and 245. I have not seen him play, but I have read where he is possibly the best defensive player in college this year. He is only a sophmore, but has the same status that Larry Fitzgerald had last year. He went to a prep school one year and will be eligible for the draft in 2005. Speculation is that he may come out.

Said to be one of the best, if not the best MLB to come out of college in several years.

Might be worth a look.

I've read that he's pretty good, but will he be a tweener in the pros? I guess Urlacher's about the same size.

Here is something I found on him from GBN...

Indeed, a case could be made that Virginia sophomre MLB Ahmad Brooks could already be the best defensive prospect in college football. Brooks is a freakish 6-4, 250 with the speed to be used returning KOs - he's averaged 27.5 yards on two returns this year. Brooks cal also play in both directions; last fall, as a true freshman (with an asterix) Brooks had 117 tackles including 4 sacks, 15 QB hurries heading upfield and also broke up 6 passes in coverage. And so far this fall its been more of the same for Brooks who alreday has 5 sacks in just 4 games for the unbeaten Cavaliers. And while technically a true soph this fall, Brooks spent a year at a prep school to raise his SAT scores prior to enrolling at Virginia so will be eligible for the 2005 draft.

I was going to make a topic about the NFL prospects playing in tonight's game.

Aside from Ahmad Brooks, you have:

Heath Miller(UVA-TE)
Elton Brown(UVA-OG)
Kawkou R obinson(UVA-DT)
Chris Canty(UVA-DE, hurt?)
Darryl Blackstock(OLB-UVA)
Justin Miller(CLEM-CB)
Airese Currie(CLEM-WR)
Charlie Whitehurst(CLEM-QB)

Canty is out for the season. Hurt his knee. He was possibly the top DE in the college ranks too from what I had heard.

Yeah, I knew he was hurt. Didn't know how long he was out for. Sucks that it's the season.

I thought this thread was about Michael Boley...

I like Boley alot. Ahmad's the better LB though.

Brooks looked pretty good in the first half. Could be a possibility for a playmaker on the defensive side.

I didn't get to see all of the game. But if MLB is a direction we go in the draft, then this kid should be a real possibility. They said his weight is nearing 260. 6'4 or 6-5. Runs like the wind. Spent half of the night in the Clemson backfield. Also dropped into coverage and looked pretty good dong that as well.

If he comes out, and we need a MLB, keep an eye on Brooks come draft day.

I liked what I saw of him. Really nice speed. He's big enough to blanket TE's too. Guess we'll have to wait and see just how high we are picking in the draft. I still believe this team is going to play like they're possessed and pull one out though.

You and I said the same thing about Rod Davis last year.

jspchief 10-08-2004 10:46 AM

The problem is, we already took a MLB in round two last year. I'm not sure we're going to use a first on one this year. I do think it would have to be a first round pick, because he won't be there late in the second.

We'll be addressing the other positions that we're getting old at. We need a WR and probably a solid O-lineman. We've got enough youth at LB that I don't think the coaches will consider it a priority.

That is true. And for some reason, Davis's stock started dropping like a stone right after we jumped on his bandwagon. Maybe I had better leave this kid alone.

Barret Ruud - MLB Nebraska. Some lucky team will take him in the 1st round this next spring but it won't be KC. :banghead::cuss:
