Steely Dan VS. Fleetwood Mac

Another poll about old bands but unlike The Beatles or Stones, these cats still regroup every decade or so to milk their fans. Both have some excellent material in my opinion. Who do you like more?

Anyone who doesn't vote Fleetwood Mac should be shot.

Anyone who votes for them without knowing their work before Stevie "MORE COKE" Nicks should also be shot...

don't stop thinking about tomorrow

BIG_DADDY 10-21-2004 11:00 PM

Steely, no contest. Sure wouldn't have minded hitting Stevie back in the day though.

Frazod 10-21-2004 11:02 PM

Stevie Nicks back in the day....

teedubya 10-21-2004 11:19 PM

Pre Stevie Nicks - Lindsey Buckingham was the better version of Fleetwood Mac in my Opinion... they had some great rock n roll.

I can't remember when did Nicks join them?

Get along Kid Charlemagne...

Clean this mess up else we'll all end up in jail
Those test tubes and the scale
Just get them all out of here
Is there gas in the car
Yes, there's gas in the car
I think the people down the hall
Know who you are

Careful what you carry
'Cause the man is wise
You are still an outlaw in their eyes

Steely Dan is the MAN

Not sure why anyone would compare these particular bands; they have virtually nothing in common.

That being said, the Dan wins hands down.

Have seen Fleetwood, just this past year here in SUX. Front row. WOW. Stevie came out pretty wasted but got better as the concert went along. Lindsay Buckingham, well, all you can say is he is a God. He made the show IMO. Worked and played his azz off. Mick went on this solo tangent that was so bizarre that it almost made me wig out. Very strange... I thought he was off the drugs...

Never seen Steeley Dan. Would like to. Like the music I've heard from them (mostly radio stuff).

Here's a trivia question, how as Steeley Dan named? Rep to the first one who gets it right.

"Steely Dan" was a name for a steam-powered dildo in the fine William Burroughs novel, Naked Lunch. Weird dude, weird book.

On the poll question, Fleetwood Mac, when Peter Green was in the band, was known as one of the THE finest English blues bands around...I've got an old bootleg where it's just shred city, I think they had 3 guitarists at the time...

but, I've gotta give my nod to the Dan...these guys are still writing great songs today...they're a little weird for some people and my wife still thinks some of their lyrics are creepy, but you can't argue w/ the consistent level of their output

my $.02

Hey, where's the 'Who Cares?' option??

BigChiefFan 10-22-2004 07:12 AM

I like Fleetwood Mac, BUT I would have to say that Steely Dan is some of the best studio musicians around. Steely Dan's music is tougher, so I have to give them the nod.
