Today's Senior Bowl practice on ESPN

They interviewed Vermeil while practice was going on... nothing too surprising I guess. He said this practice is good for the players because you've got a whole field of all-american talent and they're getting to play against people just as talented. Said this is good for him because this is his first real introduction to these players. Said him and the Chiefs personnel people were there, they watch the practices then have meetings afterward to discuss the things they've seen. When asked what stood out to him, he said obviously we're looking at defense, and he didn't name any names but you see people stand out to you, you watch and you see this guy make a good play, then that guy make a great play, then you see a DE coming hard off the edge, and it's like being a kid in a candy store having so many good things... that was about it though.

Just afterward though, they got into a conversation about Darren Sproles. Kiper said he was 3rd-4th round material. Craig James said he clearly thought he was talented enough to be an NFL running back and they agreed that he could play a Dave Meggett type role for somebody. Just thought some of you who like to argue over him would find that interesting... :)

Was he there with someone who is actually capable of evaluating defensive talent?

I think the Senior Bowl Offenses could put up 30 against the Chiefs D.

cause their out to get paid. Where all the chiefs have already got their chedder. Bartee has to be all shits and grins knowing he has been stealing an nfl paycheck for five years.

Did he mention how the Chiefs probably would use only a couple of their allotted draft picks this year, since he preferred to go with the players he already had and knew so well?

I should've just made up a bunch of stuff, that would've been far more entertaining watching everybody flip out.

"Vermeil was just being interviewed, said he was here with Carl and his personnel directors, said everything here's alright but really they can't wait for this crap to be over so they can go to the beach. Carl's using that unused 4 million in cap money from the greatest fans in football to get us some sweet digs to stay in. Not to mention that lobster we all had for dinner last night, that sh*t ain't cheap you know. I really don't know who all these guys are, but that one fullback and the tight end from Stanford really stood out to me. I think we might be looking at them in the first round. Good players, good players. Like I care about all this anyway, I'm going to be on vacation the week of the draft. Can you let me go Craig? We gotta ditch this joint, we left Gunther chained up in the hotel room, don't want him peeing on the good carpet. That'd be hundreds of dollars in repair fees we wouldn't have to pocket against the cap next year. Thanks again."

Mizzou's Ellison was blowing people up the other day in practice. I'm not sure where I'd take him as a DT, though...

Matt Roth looked pretty good for the 3 minutes I got to watch today.

ya ... trev albert was raving about Roth

said originally the he(albert) thought the Roth was just a high motor guy but was surprized by the natural athletic ability AND by how much polish Roth has.

Said Roth showed some pass rushing skills and moves that were above what he expected.

also that Roth had been consistant all week long

Roth is a defensive version of Robert Gallery.

Roth came in as a highly-touted LB and benefitted greatly from Chris Doyle's conditioning program...
