Eddie Johnson is a grown-ass man!

91 degree heat in Port of Spain, but the US prevails 2-1. The Nats were completely dominant for the first 75 minutes, aside from a huge save by Keller on a T&T breakaway to preserve the 2-0 lead. The team started to wear down a bit near the end, and a fluky own goal by Keller (ball was sent on the ground across the goal mouth, Keller tried to poke it away with his hand, but it went backwards and into the net) made for a pretty dramatic final few minutes, but all in all, a great performance and a very nice 3 points to take into Azteca on March 27th.

US goals were by Eddie Johnson (6th goal in his 4th World Cup Qualifying appearance) with huge elevation and a sweet header off a great Cherundolo cross and Eddie Lewis with a long volley after a nice pass by Donovan.

The Mighty Ducks had to play Trinidad & Tobago in the Mighty Ducks 2. Kenan Thompson was in that, I think.

Is this qualifying again already? CONCACAF or whatever?

I guess the next cup would be in '06.

Ultra Peanut 02-09-2005 04:25 PM

This was the first game of the Hex, dude.

This is the last qualifying round. Six teams (Hexagonal), home & away format. Top three move on to Germany, fourth-place team plays the fifth-place team from Asia to determine which of those two goes to the WC.

USA
Mexico
Costa Rice
Guatemala
Trinidad & Tobago
Panama

Oh, ok. Seems like I am never home to catch the games when they are on. Really enjoyed the qualifying and cup rounds for 98 and 94 though.

Grown-ass man battling for the ball:

"It was getting a little bit warm there at the end, and the guys kind of faded a bit and that's a shame because we really did control the tempo for the majority of the game. As they started throwing so many players forward at the end of the game, we really didn't cope with it as well as we'd like to, and that is something we need to work on in the future. Fantastic credit to everybody, though, we came together and got a vital three points in the first away game to open qualifying." - Kasey Keller

I like Keller, I think he's a solid keeper. I think we've got some good talent all around on the roster. I enjoy watching Donavan play for us too, now that he's off to Leverkusen. AS far as the next matches its important that we beat Mexico and I think Guatemala is a very winnable game for us. Two of my good friends are Costa Rican and I think they might be the 3rd best team after USA and Mexico.
