Fantasy Football Advice Needed

I am in the midst of my first draft this year, and I got stuck with the dreaded 1st pick. I took Peyton Manning at #1, with the idea that there would be quality RBs available at #20 and #21. I had my eyes on Clinton Portis and Ahman Green, but both of them got picked right before me. Now I need some help on who to take now that those two are gone. Here is who has been drafted so far:

1. Peyton Manning
2. Ladainian Tomlinson
3. Shaun Alexander
4. Priest Holmes
5. Randy Moss
6. Daunte Culpepper
7. Baltimore's D
8. Willis McGahee
9. Jamal Lewis
10. Donovan McNabb

Round 2

1. Deuce McAllister
2. Edgerrin James
3. Marvin Harrison
4. Kevin Jones
5. Tiki Barber
6. Ahman Green
7. Clinton Portis
8. Torry Holt
9. no pick yet...
10. my pick
11. my pick

Right now I am thinking about Julius Jones and Domanick Davis, but I am also considering Corey Dillon, Rudy Johnson, Lamont Jordan, Tatum Bell....really, any RBs that have a chance to put up some big #s. However, since so many RBs have been taken, i'm wondering if I should take a stud WR or two. Anyone got any advice for me? I need to make these picks by tonight.

JJ and DD are solid picks

Who the hell took a defense in rd 1????

eazyb81 06-29-2005 05:47 PM

Yeah, I laughed my ass off at that pick. What an idiot.

Corey and lamont are solid also.. Stay away from bell until denver decides who is #1 this early... You could take a gander and take TO also...

Take DD .... makes catches out of the backfield
JJ ...you know Parcells like to run it , esp. with a 83 yr old QB...

I think Lamont can have a big year, but the TD vulture Zack Crockett scares the crap out of me.

Right now, I have narrowed it down to Dillon, Davis, and Jones. I think I am going to go with Jones as my high ceiling pick (although his durability and the additions of A Train and Marion Barber worry me), so I need to pick between Dillon and Davis. I'm not on a time limit, I just have to make my picks sometime tonight. So if anyone has any more advice, let's hear it.

Ha, the guy that picked right before my two picks coming up just took Michael Vick ROFL.

Man, i'm still pissed that Portis got stolen from me. :cuss:

Dude, what kind of league is this??? :shake:

Just some friends, we're not playing for money or anything. The guy that picked the Ravens D in the 1st and the guy that just picked Michael Vick aren't the most savvy fantasy football GMs, but the rest of the guys really know their stuff.

Maybe you should go rb then wr?
maybe JJ or DD then Chad Johnson or Joe Horn...

Conventional wisdom, I believe, says never to take anything other than a running back inside of the first 10 picks in a fantasy draft. Running backs are more likely to be big point scorers. A decent QB can usually be had in round 3, plus if you pay attention, someone surprising usually surfaces at some point during the early season.

If I was you, I'd ditch the fantasy football league and just spend your time defrauding the guy who took the Defense in the first round and then followed it up with Kevin Jones. You've found yourself a fine pigeon there.

I don't play fantasy football, but this seems like pretty solid strategy.

Looking at his draft, there's 7 or 8 RBs taken in the first 15 picks, and the only real QBs taken are Peyton and Donovan.

If I were playing, I'd take JJ from Dallas.
