It seems ridiculous to call the 4th game of the season a must win and of course technically it is not. On the other hand should the Chiefs lose this game they will be two games back with 3 losses in the AFC. Not what you would call a good situation to be in. This would require the Chiefs to win 9 out of the 12 remaining games to reasonably assure themselves a spot in the playoffs.

Every game is a must win...this one moreso than anything.

I agree Gregg/RCGChief
If the Chiefs want a playoff spot, they are going to have to win the West. At this point, I don't see a wild card from our division. So, I have to believe that the Chiefs need a win in Denver to keep the momentum going and to give themselves an outside shot at keeping the division title hopes alive. |
This is a HUGE game an absolute must win.. If we can take this from Denver at their stadium it will catapult the Chiefs through the rest of the year and be a big psychological let down for the Donx and the momentum they have going right now. I can't wait till Sunday. Go Chiefs
|
It's not a must win but it is HUGE - since we BLEW the Titans game!
|
RCG - if playoffs are a goal, then yes. If rebuilding for next year, then no. I don't know what the front office has established as the goal, but every quote from a Chief player says that playoofs are the goal. To the Chiefs players, this is a "must" win.

Every AFC West game against Denver is a "must win." Its the only way to keep them from running away with the title. We all have to gut up and beat the Donks. Raiders failed in their best shot to slow them down. The Chiefs can make up for our dropping the ball in Oaktown. Go Chiefs!

From some of the articles I've read over the last couple of days (post-Sylvester super game) have hinted that our coaches and players are leaning towards the "rebuilding" mode, while keeping the playoffs as a "goal".
If we want to make the playoffs, this game is a "must win". However, if we truly want to build this team for the future, this game is a "must LOSE". If we win in Mile High, as 8 point underdogs, we are guaranteed that Gunther and his Stooges will be back for another year. ------------------ Parker ChiefsPlanet Administrator Jimmy Raye for President...anything to get him out of Kansas City More Moreau [This message has been edited by htismaqe (edited 09-20-2000).] |
I agree with Duck. Looking at Denver's schedule, their only tough non-division game is @ NYJ. If the Chiefs and Seahawks (and Oakland in their remaining game) can't play them tough, Denver could easily get 11-12 wins http://www.ChiefsPlanet.com/ubb/eek.gif

Depressing...........but I can't wait to see them try to win it! |
It's not totally depressing, and the answer is implied.
The only way we can win this weekend is if Gun and JR open it up again. If they do, and we win, then that's two games in a row that the playcalling didn't stink. If we can do that a couple of more games, I might be swayed that our coaches don't need to be fired. ------------------ Parker ChiefsPlanet Administrator Jimmy Raye for President...anything to get him out of Kansas City [i]More Moreau |
As Duck pointed out, Denver will run away with the AFC West if we all split in the conference. That cushy schedule will hoist them into the championship. Denver will coast outside the AFC West, so we MUST dominate inside the West in order to compete with their schedule. We have to sweep at least [3] teams in the conference.
Doable? Yes. Likely? No, I am afraid not. xoxo~ gaz girding his loins to watch the Broncos coast into the AFC West championship.
|
There are, of course, other factors at work here.
· A loss means the obnoxious Broncos fans will be here in force. · A win means that our coaching staff might actually return next season. · A loss means we can nurse our humiliation and pay it back at Arrowhead. · A win means that our coaching staff might actually return next season. · A loss means I must endure hooting from my Broncos Homer aunt and uncle. · A win means that our coaching staff might actually return next season. · A loss means a virtual end to our playoff aspirations. · A win means that our coaching staff might actually return next season. Ambivalence, thy name is Gaz. xoxo~ gaz dreading a loss, but afraid of a win.
|
Every divisional game is a must win, every year, every time. Going 8-0 in your division gets you a lot closer to the playoff's then anything else.
|
Every game against a divison opponent is a must. What makes this game more important than an NFC opponent is the tiebreaker(s).
If GC and JR continue to show an effective downfield passing attack, that does not wait to 3rd and long to throw, then I would not want them to leave. There is only one goal, the SuperBowl. You must get to the playoffs first. If you don't attain the goal then nothing else matters. |
