Midseason Awards
I stole this idea from the Mane. :D
Most Improved Player Kawika Mitchell. This is obviously a no-brainer. Offensive MVP Trent Green. Hasn't had the protection of years past. Still only has 3 interceptions and a completion percentage over 60. Defensive MVP Jared Allen. Almost single-handedly won the Washington game. Avoiding the curse of the sophomore slump. Biggest Surprise Dewayne Washington. Dexter who? Stepped up huge in the 2nd Oakland game. Biggest Flop Samie Parker. Still has potential, but he was being counted on as a starter coming into the year. Horn and Hall have played better. Rookie of the Half-Year Derrick Johnson. No-brainer. Would like to see him get his hands on a couple INTs. Brilliant Moment LJ's game-winning dive against the Raiders. No contest. Maybe the biggest play of the Vermeil era. Biggest Goof Allowing the Eagles to come back from 17-0 and 24-6 deficits at Arrowhead. Disgusting. This game might haunt us. Team MVP Lawrence Tynes. An admitted homer pick, but he IS our leading scorer. :D |
My biggest suprise would probably be Tynes. He has gone from choke to clutch. if biggest suprise doesn't have to be a player, I would say our poor O-line play has been pretty suprising.
Biggest disappointment would be Bell. Parker never did anything to give me high hopes to begin with. I actually expected Bell to be productive if he stayed healthy. |

GC, I would agree with most of your list. I don't know that I would call Parker the biggest flop, though. That would have to be either the offensive line (injuries have hurt them but even some of the starters have had some bad games) or Bell (as pointed out above, some of that isn't his fault). And Tynes has been money, no doubt, but I would hardly give him MVP. That would probably have to go to Trent Green. |

Briillant Moment...
LJ ?? Give credit for team/coaches admiting they can get it and allowed to GO FOR IT. everyone executed perfectly. The Dive was a team thing. Flop Parker??? agree with JSPchief Bell but that could be coaching and lack of seriously playing to his blitz strength. for whatever reason now. Everything else is spot on.... |
I agree with most of these, except Sammy Knight gets my MVP. Although statistically the defense may not be much better, they have stepped up when they needed to, something they didn't do last year. I think this has a lot to do with Knight's leadership. Has anyone else noticed how the defensive guys look to him for approval after a nice stop?

I'd like to add one to list
Biggest Secret Weapon -- Kris Wilson -- after 8 games Wilson is still a "secret". I'm sure not one of 8 teams we faced even knows he's a weapon. |
