Official K-State-Mizzou thread

So much in common...

hatred of Chickenhawks... coaches who appear in over their heads... wildly inconsistent teams... disappointing seasons... a great basketball legacy that has been embarassed of late.

I'm sure this will be a close game. I think the keys are:

Marshall Brown's ability to matchup with Cartier Martin. I haven't seen much of Martin, but they seem to be similar players (though Martin is more experienced and a better shooter). Both are athletic, strong players who can play inside and out. Brown has to limit Martin offensively and make him work defensively by driving the ball to the rim.

The shooting of Jimmy McKinney. At this point, Gardner has proved he's going to make his shots (though I obviously don't expect performances like Monday's every time out), but the X-factor is McKinney's ability to make teams pay for focusing on Gardner. K-State's zone has been effective, so McKinney must be on for the Tigers to bust it effectively. Smart distribution of the ball against the zone would be nice, too.

The play of Kalen Grimes/Leo Lyons. One of these two must step up and give Kevin Young some help inside. K-State has a lot of bodies inside, so YOung will need breathers. Grimes played well against Kansas and showed flashes of being an imposing off-the-ball defender, something Missouri has been missing since AJ graduated.

I'm looking forward to it!

We'll have our best defender, Akeem Wright, on Gardner all night i'm sure. K-State has been playing pretty good defense as of late, and MU has been a good offensive team, so it should be an interesting matchup, since K-States offense has struggled, and MU is not a good defensive team.

Will this be the K-State team who has shown up the past 2 games vs KU and Texas A&M, or the one vs Nebraska (gag)? Who knows. With the homecourt advantage, I say K-State 74 MU 68

I haven't seen Wright play enough to really make a statement about how good he is/isn't, but I sure hope K-State plays man-to-man against MU. Mizzou is vastly better against zones this season, but they're still much better against man.

I think Gardner has proved he's good enough that no single defender can shut him down. Illinois is the only team that has, and that was a group effort. He's forced fewer plays (driving the ball) since that game.

Wooly doesn't like to use zone too much.

Lance Harris also had a good outing on Wednesday night. This game is a big game for him, for obvious reasons. He's been in a slump this season...

If the MUrons show up in full force, yea. Last I heard there was around 1.5k tickets left. There are quite a few MU fans there.

Yeah.

The game takes place on SATURDAY, like most Big XII games. I'm driving to Manhappiness tommorow, and getting in line around 5:00 PM.

I wish they saved "free popcorn night" for this game.
