The hiring of OL coach Mike Solari as offensive coordinator is good news for the Chiefs' ground game, as he was the architect of a lot of the blocking schemes and helped in game-planning short-yardage situations. But QB coach Terry Shea is expected to be a focal point in keeping the passing game going strong, and the team no doubt will lean heavily on the experience of QB Trent Green.

• Herman Edwards held talks with all of his new players in Kansas City during his first week on the job, and he said his early gut feeling is that OG Will Shields is leaning toward putting off retirement for another season.

The Chiefs can't keep hoping this will go on forever.

Better get some folks developed or FA.

I hope it's truly his gut feeling and not that he had lunch at the Taco Bell across from Arrowhead.

Welbourn is a very good RG. Shields can be replaced. Roaf can't. Black can fill in okay at guard or RT, but not LT. Maybe Sampson can play LT? Good thing we have Solari to develop players.

I hope this means that Trent will have more freedom to audible at the LOS or call plays in the hurry up offense.

I think got fired because the O line sucked ans was inured and the QB got injured and he was tryng to install our style of offense. He had no chance. ...ScapeGoat.

PhilFree:arrow:

Yeah, he lost Grossman AND Quinn and was trying to run the offense with Craig Krenzel.

And it's not like they improved this year after firing him...yardage figures almost identical, despite better QBs.

I can think of around 5.1 million reasons for him to come back next year.

And don't forget that Lovie Smith traded his best WR, Marty Booker, right before the season...
