House bill wants to make state schools meet up
Eagle staff

There's another push to mandate basketball games between Wichita State, Kansas and Kansas State.

Rep. Jason Watkins, R-Wichita, has introduced in the Kansas House a bill that would require Kansas State and Kansas to play Wichita State in every sport in which WSU and the opposing school compete in the 2007-08, 2008-09, and 2009-10 school years.

The bill, which has been referred to the House Higher Education committee, would require those teams to meet on a home-and-home basis each year.

A similar bill in 2004 stalled in committee when KU estimated its athletic department could lose "hundreds of thousands" of dollars by playing men's basketball at WSU because it would lose the potential income of playing a higher-profile opponent with national television interest on the road.

The new bill would require KU and K-State to meet in their common sports, too, but those schools already meet as members of the Big 12 Conference.

Some RWNJ wants to do this in MO. MU would have to play SMS, SEMO, UMKC. I'm glad Smokin' A Blunt and co. solved the rest of the state's problems and have time for this crap.

When it comes to football, I doubt if KState will have a problem with it. :D

That's the upside of the deal for K-State. If WSU had a football team, we'd lose $$$ having to travel there. Basketball is a different story. When WSU came to town, they brought some fans, not a ton, but more than usual for a non-con game.

Wooly offered Turg a deal, and Turg thought WSU and the Shockers were too good for it.

Too good after the Shocks dropped two in a row to K-State. :shake:

Wouldn't it be better if WSU earned the right to play KU and KSU? Like making some noise against quality opponents? What does either school have to gain by playing WSU?

TIED5573 01-24-2006 09:33 PM

Oh, yeah, you newbie's THINK K-State is afraid of WSU, BUT the vaunted 'Hawks are the ones that fear, remember 1982, and Big Dance and Mr. Valentine and co go DOWN to the mighty Shockers!!

Besides, NOBODY beats us 32 times in a row!!!
