12 weeks until football season (was 84 days until...)
Fine.
Whining cry-babies resulted in me switching to a weekly countdown instead of a daily one. But once we're inside a month, I'm gonna switch back to days. So in the meantime, weekly, I'll give some useful tips each week to smooth-up the better half so you can watch football without complaint once season starts.... WEEK #12 (12 weeks to go) This week's topic: MAGAZINES Go to the local newsstand, or better yet, grocery or drug store (that way you can pick up a 6- or 12- pack for yourself!) and get three or four of the wife's favorite rags: Celebrity gossip: People, US, InTouch, STAR Homemaker: Better Homes&Gardens, Family Circle, This old House Fashion: InStyle, Elle, Vogue, Marie Claire, Lucky Active: Self, Shape, Fitness (be careful! if she's not already into these mag she might take it as a sign that you're trying to tell her to lose weight ( like the Thigh-master you got her for Christmas) BIG MISTAKE -- tread lightly in the fitness mag area! ...etc, etc, I bet you've seen what she likes, any time you might have gone on vacation she'll pick those up at the airport, etc. HINT: These can be the literary equivalent of a chick flick, so if at the grocery store, get a HotRod or Sports Illustrated to put on top of the stack, to preserve your manliness. Point is, buy a few she likes, hand them over and let her read them for a couple hours while you take the kids to a movie, or do some other crap she'd have to do otherwise. Or, just go hang with your buddies for a couple hours, watch the Royals lose or something. Then, in a few months, when season starts and you want to watch the Chiefs trounce the Bengals or the Cardinals or something...if she complains, you can say, "Hon, remember that time I got you all your favorite magazines and let you read them all afternoon while I (insert what you did here...or not).. well, this is just something that I enjoy doing, so let me have these few hours...cool? Say it in the right way and you'll be able to enjoy the game without a nasty bump on your head courtesy of the resident frying pan or rolling pin. A good relationship is all about give and take. So give now, and you can take later. most importantly, remember...12 WEEKS LEFT!!!! |
Thanks Martha.
