Was wondering if anybody had any unique hangover cures. Back in college I used to mix 1:2 bitters and club soda. The bitters had alcohol in it which actually does make you feel better and the seltzer in the club soda calmed your stomach.
Had the 'bitters and soda' a time or two, a bartender pal of mine swore by it and doled it out to the regulars. Back when I was still a drinkin' man, I'd always take 'Stresstab' vitamins and drink a lot of water before I hit the hay, and again as soon as I staggered out of bed. Followed by lots of coffee and a couple of aspirin. It's important to rehydrate again when you have a hangover, the alchohol robs you of vitamins and pulls a lot of the h2o out of your blood. The cocktails aren't a substitute for water. Even tho some light beers come close judging by the taste...reminds me of the old joke 'What's drinking light beer and making love in a canoe have in common? They're both f**king near to water. :D

Celantro. When I was in college, I worked at a Mexican restaurant - they put tons of cleantro in their salsa. In the mornings, I'd go to work w/ a nasty hangover, munch on chips & celantro salsa, and the hangover was gone - almost instantly! http://www.chiefsplanet.com/ubb/smile.gif

Before you go to bed throw down 4 Advil and two tablespoons of honey....And obviously drink as much water as you can before you pass out...This will prevent 75% of your hangovers...Repeat 1st thing in the morning if necessary...Low blood sugar and dehydration is what causes the pain...The high dose of sugar in the honey plus the water will help reverse the effects.

Vitamin B6 is the only thing that I have seen that works. It is known to cut the effects of a nasty hangover by 50%. You have to take it during and after drinking though. I don't hit it too hard myself anymore, getting too old to deal with the “hung like a bull hamster” syndrome the next morning!

moderation's the name of the game anymore, huh bwana? how can you do that when you brew your own?

~i'd never sober up if i brewed my own

seclark: I go with the quality not quantity at this point. :) It seems about the time I hit 30, those hangovers started to REALLY hurt and the old melon would start thrumping like a bastard rat the next day from to much brew.

I agree with Bwana, B vitamins help a ton. The stresstabs I take are mostly B complex with some vitamin C. The C helps with 'smokers hangover' and that usually goes hand in hand with 'drinking hangover'. Stresstabs, water...and I'll try a tablespoon of honey if I ever drink more than 3 beers again in one night. Since I started following my 'eat something first, then have 3 beers and 3 glasses of water and then go home' rule, hangovers aren't a problem anymore. Of course, I'm no longer a legend in my own time, but that's the price you pay.

My solution for my own hangover is to just drink a shitload of water as soon as I wake up. Then after about 30 min. I eat something.

It only takes about a couple of hours to be over them.

But that is also the reason that I never drink heavily if I have to be at work the next day. Hangover + Work = Unbearable!

Why would you rather spend your free time hung over instead of getting paid for feeling like crap?

(Bob Dole seldom suffers from hangovers, which is probably a bad sign of something...)

i have 2 schools of thought when considering this problem.

1. weekend....hair of the dog..i'll drink a beer in the moring and it helps.

2. week/too bad for #1, I asked my doc one time...he said drinking gatoraide or Pedialite was the only thing that medically speaking should help....and it seems to, though i'm slowing down.

my brother got a owi with 4 beers friday .1007, do i'll probably slow down a little more.

Well otter....an old trucker recipet that usually works wonders......Chew a coupple of charcoal tablets....get em at any pharmasy...trust me,they work! There's nothing worse than having to drive 600 miles the next day most times,,,(we truckers party when ever ,how ever, why ever),,with a hang over...BTDT TOOOOOO many times!

Cannibal 01-02-2001 05:38 PM

Dole,

Work sucks, hangovers suck. The two together suck even worse. Especially when I get up at 7:00 am to go to work.
