With the subpar year on D for the Rams, most all jobs on the D coaching staff is in jeopardy. This includes Carl Hairston, their Line Coach.

Carl coached in KC in 95 and 96, a couple of great Defensive years. Also, last year's Rams line was pretty formidable under him. This is one guy I'd love to get back. Besides coaching, I beleive he had a hand in player develpment. He had a knack for bringing out the best in athletes, performance-wise AND personally. Some would say he was part of the difference between the clean-cut teams of the mid '90's and the thugs of 98'-'99.

Thoughts?

JC,

I don't know much about this guy, but what you're saying makes sense.

I don't think we'll make any moves on asst. coaches until an announcement is made on next years HC.

Personally, I'm hoping that Vermiel will come in and bring his own staff (which very well might include Hairston!).

Vermeil? Seriously....?

C'mon, it's a bit of a reach and they guy is old. I don't think he's your answer, unless the question is - "Who is an old and slightly overrated former head coach that KC could bring out of retirement?"

Alhough the post subject is Hairston, not Vermiel;
MileHigh - merits of the choice aside, the scuttlebutt on Vermiel is that a Chiefs connection should be taken 'seriously.'
I would be for it if he can bring Saunders and Hairston with him.
Vermiel has taken the step that is still pending for Gunther, the softening of his manic hard-edge that lets the players know that he expects a lot of them, but also respects the effort they have made. Also, to get out the tums and smelling salts, no sleep la-la land of a coach too tightly wound to be healthy or effective.

Looks like he's been cut loose. Here's hoping the Chiefs give him a soft landing.
