Another article, this time from Teicher, with good imput from Dick Vermeil, and as well as the salary cap issues it covers, it also contained a snippet on Elvis's status. [edit: incorrect link] |
Of course, Vermeil could simply be lowering the expectations of the R&G faithful [which bears an alarming resemblance to investor expectations for tech stocks, with the same inevitable plummet]. Or this could be a sober, realistic analysis of our cap situation. Since this same drum has been beaten previously, I believe that it is fact.
Let us therefore be sober and realistic: · No Garner, Barber or Watters at HB. · No Sharper at LB. · No Trent Green. · Potentially no Grbac [but very unlikely]. · Probably no Shields. · Possibly no Hasty. :mad · No release of McGlockton. · No release of Williams. :mad OL: Tait, Blackshear, Waters, Willis, Riley QB: Grbac, Collins HB: Moreau, Cloud FB: Richardson, Bennett TE: Gonzalez, Dunn/Drayton WR: Alexander, Morris, Ricks/Parker DL: Hicks, McGlockton, Williams/Browning, Clements LB: Edwards, Maslowski, Patton/Bush/George CB: Dennis, Bartee, Warfield/Gray S: Wesley, Woods P: Sauerbrun K: Peterson Let us also soberly and realistically assume that we are going to get no starters via FA. What now? xoxo~ gaz bracing himself. |
Well Gaz I guess we hope we have one hell of a draft. Though by the sound of it one wonders where they will find the money to sign a high 1st rnd. draft pick. Trading down for a lower 1st and maybe a 2nd rnd. pick is starting to look more and more realistic.

I certainly think so. Trade down in the 1st and pick up a 2nd. We might have to throw in one of our extra picks in the 3rd or 4th to accomplish the move. We could draft HB in the 1st, OLB in the 2nd, QBotf, CB, DT and/or WR in the 3rd, OG and/or C in the 4th, and depth or Best Available Athlete till the end. xoxo~ gaz taking advantage of the depth in Round 2 [Tagliabue sucks]. |
Ah, screw it. Since we apparently can't afford that trendy #12 RB, then I say trade down, take Hutchinson in the first, whatever RB is available in the 2nd, or even better Raiola, WR/returner in the 3rd and then best available for the rest.
Give me the best young O-line in the NFL!!!!! |
Kyle-
While I think that would be a good move, I would fear for Carl's life should he pick OLinemen with our 1st & 2nd picks. I recall some fans grumbling about Tait at #1. xoxo~ gaz would also like to have a young, strong, pulling OL. |
I mean you read where they have to cut and finagle 31 mil down. That means bare bones FA's with minimum salaries, cannon fodder if you will. Maybe one or two will make the team. It sounds like it's going to be a very deep draft talent wise in the 1st and there will still be good players in the 2nd. Trade down for a lower 1st and hopefully high 2nd we end up with 9 picks for the draft. And then hope you can sign them cheap. Maybe 4 or 5 make the team.

I like the way you think. But 'ware the frumious HB Homers. And protect your corneas... xoxo~ gaz thinks along similar lines. |
Gaz, I'm reaching for my glasses now. LOL Ha Hah....

I believe our strongest hope now, is to put our faith in DV and staff, and if we have the RB they think can do it, then we pick OL, trade down, whatever. Hutchinson won't last long after #12 though. Everyone seems to have this myopic view, that well, we were over last year, so what, we will adjust. I have said for some time, eventually, this is going to catch up with us, just as it has the 49ers, Cowboys, and it looks like the Jags. It looks like everything we do, is keyed around Elvis. Maybe the simple solution is, let him walk, along with Hasty, Shields, etc. If that is the case, we lose the 31 mil fast, and start a complete upheaval of the roster. If we go with Collins, or the guy from Canada, we should be looking at a top 5 pick next year. If we sign him, he is young enough to weather a couple of years of retooling, unfortunately, I believe we are still an 8-8 type team, with virtually no changes in the lineup. I think we must get right on this cap issue once and for all. Anyway we should see some handwriting on the wall, in about 3 weeks.

There's a pretty good article in the Topeka paper that has some quotes from Grbac's agent. He's sure they'll get the contract restructured within the next couple of weeks. The Grbac side sounds pretty willing to cooperate to me.
Here's a link to the article: http://www.cjonline.com/stories/0210...efsgrbac.shtml |
Thanks for that link, spe_725. Wish I would remember more often to check the Capital-Journal, they've had some good stuff in there from time-to-time.
