What is a Chief Fan's # 1 priority

I got off on a rant and was inspired to start this thread topic. I said then that I stand behind CP and Herm that we could be doing a lot worse than what they have done for us to date.

My question is what should be my #1 priority as a Chiefs fan, at least according to the negative nancy's of this BB.

Should it be the playoffs? How about the Superbowl?

I contend that a fan's #1 priority should be a winning record and here is why;

Simply put, look at the odds. The mindset that we should have a playoff or a superbowl bid as a main goal in a season is the same mindset that has led to the success of many a casino owner in Vegas. It's just not the odds you should be focused on.

Two 16 team conferences to two superbowl bids is to far against the odds to hold that as my #1 goal for my Chiefs. Period.

With six playoff bids for a 16 team conference the odds get better, but this is very close to 2/3 of the conference not making the playoffs, again, the odds. If you know more than 60% of the coin flips are going to me on a head to head match up, why would you bet against yourself?? And then complain that you didn't beat me?

If you agree with me, let me know. If you don't try and make a better argument for a different theory.

If anyone here looks forward to anything less than the Super Bowl they're idiots. That's the main prize and in reality, not winning one means failure.

Then you are a failure, according to your logic

Looking at things objectively, our number one priority should be to kill ourselves. Fortunately, I have a problem with procrastination.

Your assumption is that the outcome of a particular game is determined by a 50-50 random chance. That is not the case in football...if it was, the team captains could simply meet in the center of the field, shake hands, call the coin toss and everyone could go home. Would certainly save wear and tear on the field.

My theory is that NFL football teams (except the Lions) try to make personnel and game plan decisions based on winning football games. A series of correct decisions by the GM, Head Coach, and Players results in victories. Some organizations do a consistently better job over time of making correct decisons.

Think of it like playing tournament poker...players that consistently make good decisions over time will win over time. The goal is to string enough good decisions together to win the tournament, not win 50% of your hands.

My # 1 priority would be a young stud QB. A Carson Palmer, Vince Young, Phillip Rivers, Jay Cutler type.......

The thought process from the quote you commented on was about the odds of making the playoffs, not for a one game outcome, more for the out come of 16 teams playing 16 games and the if the outcome = a playoff birth or not. Included with this was my rant on the negativity of some chief fans, that we suck if we don't win a superbowl or we suck if we don't get in the playoffs.

My point is that we suck if we have a losing record, and we should try to enjoy the season for what it is..... a game.

You have to be kidding me!! If you arent trying to win a championship then what the hell are you doing. Are you Carl Peterson in disguise?? As long as we are 500 and selling out the stadium, we are successfull. Thats BS!!

You cant compare every day life with proffesional sports.

The Chiefs front office is happy with a winning record and thats what makes it so frustrating to be a Chief fan. How can you ask the players to compete if all you want is a winning record. Ask any of them and they will tell you they play for a RING, a CHAMPIONSHIP!!

"You play to win the game"

To me a Chiefs fans' #1 priority is to cheer, and pull for the Chiefs to win every single game.

My personal goal every year for the team is the Division. Because that is the best position to be in to put a run together for the superbowl.

also ask the players of a poker tournament if the world will end if they don't win the tournament, or if it could be considered a small victory to place high enough to win thier entry fee back.

Take also your fantasy football season, did you waste the year by not placing first in your league or was part of the fun, just playing in the game. Yes you want to win, but my question posed here is our #1 priority, don't take my comments out of context.

are you answering with your ULTIMATE GOAL or your #1 priority, do you need a dictonary to know the difference?

I bet you are just another of the Negative Nancy's that would complain about anything, just to have a say in the world.

You're not getting my point obviously.

chiefforlife 12-30-2006 05:20 PM

Why dont you ask Will Shields if he is Happy, wasting his entire career on a mediocre team?? Sure some of it was fun but that isnt the #1 priority. Ask Tony Gonzalez the same thing?

Yeah I know, Im not a player, but I have the same #1 priority. No, its not the end of the world if we dont get there but some progress would be nice. Working towards that goal would be nice. To be content with a 9-7 season is not what sports is about.
