Maybe it's the cold medicine talking, but I am optimistic about next year.

But after thinking a while, and eating a quesadilla, I've concluded that this was Herm's first year with mostly DV's players. Yeah, the offense took a HUGE step backward. But there were enough games with great Offensive performances to make me disagree that Saturday's debacle wasn't the way he expects to run an offense (yeah, he could have changed some things during the game, and I want to clock his azz for that embarrassment).

Look at the D improvement, and the good draft we had. Hali, Pollard, Page. (Croyle as yet to be seen). And if he cuts Sims, Bartee, Bell, Hicks, and the like, we just might be getting somewhere. He's going to replace a lot of the O guys with people who are "with the program" and hopefully get the athletic LB's needed for his "Cover Who?" scheme. So, I'll give him next year before I ask for his head on a stick (though I still want to clock his azz for that debacle in Indy.)

So which is it, clock his azz, or clock his ass?

I think things might get worse on offense before they get better, but other than that I'm excited.

The defense could only improve with the additions of Ty Law, Jarrard Page and Tamba Hali. IMO, it was a natural progression of Gun's philosophy, better understanding of the scheme and better players.

The special teams took a step backward and the offense took a gigantic step backwards.

I see no reason for enthusiasm at this point.
