I Might not know Baseball Contracts but...

Freddy Sanchez (PIT) - 2006 NL Batting Champion - 1 Year $2.75 Million

Justin Morneau (MIN) - 2006 AL MVP - 1 Year $4.5 Million
---------------------------------------------------
Brett Myers (PHI) 3 Years $25.75 Million

Brian Roberts (BAL) 1 Year $4.2 Million

Austin Kearns (WAS) 3 Years $17.5 Million

Tony Armas Jr. (PIT) 1 Year $3.5 Million
---------------------------------------------------

Okay, so why the hell are the 4 guys below the top 2 guys making so much money and the top 2 guys not making that much? Especially in the year in which player contracts were so unbelievably high. Those players Agents need to be fired.

Phobia 02-03-2007 11:19 PM

I've never heard of any of them.

yea i noticed that also... I would have thought Morneau would have scored a lot more

Morneau's contract was an arbitration settlement, landed in the middle of asking/offered price. In today's baseball economy Myers, Roberts and Kearns are all decent values at those prices.

Armas has never produced anything worthy of those $$ but he's a pitcher and the market for them is a bit crazy this season. At one time he had wicked stuff but he's always hurt.

Time in the league and arbitration years left.

Age

Players aren't elgible for free agency until their 6th or 7th year in the major leagues...so young players get far below market value, whereas mediocre players like Grudzialanek will get 6 million per...

Shit, Ryan Howard is making 350 K...dude was the MVP and hit 58 HR's...it'll be a shame if he Bob Hamelin's it!

Hootie 02-04-2007 08:44 AM

you should be asking why Gil Meche is set to make 11 million dollars per year...quite possibly the worst contract ever.

Hopefully he got some extra dough for winning the Fing Homerun Derby as well. 350K is just wrong!!! A contract's a contract, but considering there isn't even a cap, give the man what he deserves.

Oh well, when FA time rolls around, he'll just become a Yankee whether philly treats him well or not. :cuss:

The Cardinals bumped Pujols up to 750K when they could've kept him at the minimum...Philly should give Howard 1 M just because, if you ask me...

What is this "Baseball" that you speak of?
