Rams give WR Bennett six-year deal

The St. Louis Rams signed free agent receiver Drew Bennett to a six-year, $30-million contract on Saturday, SI.com has learned, a clear sign that veteran Isaac Bruce is likely in his final season with the team.

Bennett, who spent the previous six seasons with the Tennessee Titans, was one of the top free agents on the market, and the Rams were his first and only visit. He will team with Pro Bowl wideout Torry Holt and Bruce, the franchise's all-time leading receiver, to give St. Louis quarterback Marc Bulger an additional downfield option.

Bennett's deal, according to a source familiar with the terms, includes $10 million in guaranteed money. It will pay him a total of $9.5 million over the first year of the contract.

Damn... nice money for a pretty good player.

Mecca 03-03-2007 03:27 PM

That's alot of money for a guy who gets hurt alot.....

This market is just insane.......everyone is getting massivly overpaid.

Demonpenz 03-03-2007 03:33 PM

he was a pretty good skiier for colorado

Hammock Parties 03-03-2007 03:34 PM

Yeah, we couldn't afford that. Too bad, I wanted him.

crazycoffey 03-03-2007 03:36 PM

any talk about stokely?

not saying I want him, but asking only.

Hootie 03-03-2007 03:37 PM

I wish we'd ball up and sign Stallworth...but I have a feeling the asking price is going to be outrageous. I think Stallworth has superstar potential.

Chiefs Pantalones 03-03-2007 03:38 PM

I hope we go after Stallworth, as well.

If we don't, I say we get a WR in the 1st round.

Archie Bunker 03-03-2007 03:41 PM

Stallworth would be nice at the right price but I doubt it happens.

I think they draft one early and let him battle Webb, Hannon, and maybe a lower tier FA for the #2 and #3 spots.

crazycoffey 03-03-2007 03:46 PM

draft one

I just remember Bennett burning McCleon on MNF a few seasons ago.

You can say that for every position.....this is why you have to take players above positions if you get what I'm saying.
