CNNSI Chiefs draft tidbit

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS

Key Debate: The sudden departure of Will Shields and the losses of Jordan Black and Kyle Turley have left the offensive line in shambles. Can they find a receiver to replace Eddie Kennison? How much longer can Ty Law and Patrick Surtain hold up at the corners?

My Advice: Take Ben Grubbs or Justin Blalock in the first round to solidify the middle of the offensive line, pick up Daymeion Hughes or another Cover Two type corner in the second round. The draft is deep at receiver, so there will a good player available in the later rounds.

I'm almost certain that's what we're going to do.

DRAFT A WR IN THE FIRST ROUND!!!

This is not a bad plan at all. Drafting a WR in the 1st, when so many solid prospects will be available later on Saturday is a bad plan.

I've ever heard of this Tidbt guy. What position does he play?

htismaqe 04-25-2007 01:32 PM

I wish Ben Grubbs would last to the 2nd, because I think he's the best guard in this draft by far after watching some clips.

I think the right way to build a team is from the inside out, so no problem here.

KevB 04-25-2007 02:41 PM

Offensive guards are almost the least valued position there is in the draft. You can find solid guard prospects later in the draft much more so than WR, CB, DE, etc. Unless you're talking about a Steve Hutchinson type player, save the guard pick for the 3rd round.

I agree with that philosophy, so long as you don't reach in the draft to build that way.

And like KevB, I'm not big on taking guards in the first.

Will Shields I can see, but Jordan Black and Kyle Turley leaving have left our line in "shambles"?

He can say WR's will be available later but I don't buy it. The majority of teams do value the position when it's deep there are huge runs on them and 15-20 of them could go in 2 rounds......it's happened before.

oldandslow 04-26-2007 08:47 AM

If 15 to 20 WR are taken in the first 2 rounds, I DO NOT want us taking one. Look at the talent that will be left at other positions.

I'd like to go on record again, that if the Chiefs can acquire another 3rd round pick....I'd like them to take a flyer on Bush. He's not likely to produce this year, but he's a big, physical back and would work well under Hermball if the leg recovers.

There are enough positions of need, that the Chiefs should be able to take the Best Player Available in the top 5 rounds and not be wrong.

I agree with that

I agree with building from the lines. With that being said, I think you build from the tackles. Spending a 1st rounder on an OG is foolhardy, IMO.
