Is Herm being overly cautious with Bowe?

Guys who signed after Bowe (Quinn and Beason) are already on the field in practice. They weren't put on PUP or anything. If those guys can step up right away, why can't Bowe? Herm had made a comment that Bowe had missed 200 reps in the week he missed. Well, won't he miss 400 by sitting another week on the sidelines with club Priest?

I like what he is doing to protect the players. I have offered plenty of criticism of Herm, but I like his caution in this case.

at this point with Bowe as a future EK replacment. NO. it's pre-season take it for what it is.

Bowe is listed opposite EK on the depth chart and will be looking to replace Parker- not Kennison.

Bordering on the side of caution is likely a good thing. They need to make sure that Bowe has been doing the right things to be in "football shape" before throwing him out there to face a defense. Players that hold out tend to get injured quickly, especially rookies...

Quinn is the face of a franchise that needs to be out there now... Beason, well he's a LB that they need to step up now, so I guess they need him on the field immediately.

KC needs Bowe without question to step up sooner rather than later... but, I wouldn't fault their approach.

Hell, I'd keep him under wraps until... I dunno, week 11 or so and then I would unleash his fury.

Sure-Oz 08-08-2007 10:17 AM

Rather have him not play and just get ready for the season, don't want him to rush and tweak something.

InChiefsHeaven 08-08-2007 10:21 AM

He'll likely play in the 2nd preseason game at Arrowhead, according to Herm. Thats' plenty soon enough.

Wile_E_Coyote 08-08-2007 10:23 AM

Not all training camps started at the same time. The Chiefs could be further along in conditioning than those other teams. Camps vary. I agree with Herm's approach, what's the rush?

CosmicPal 08-08-2007 10:23 AM

No

I don't think he's being overly cautious, Mr. Chiefnj2. Herm knows what he's doing. Bowe has to learn the offense.

It will take him at least a week to get comfortable with "see ball". Then he can work on "get ball".

Hamstring.

Hamstring.

Hamstring.

He's a WR.

NY CHIEF 08-08-2007 11:05 AM

We do not need any lingering hamstring pulls :hmmm:

Phobia 08-08-2007 11:08 AM

Hopefully they're making him do all sorts of flexibility and running to build a base for what he'll be doing in games. I don't know what his routine was before he signed but I doubt it was what they do the first week of camp. Few people have the self discipline to do that on their own. You need coaches and accountability of your teammates to dig that deeply.

afchiefs 08-08-2007 11:20 AM

EK stated on 810 that he would be surprised if Bowe played in the 2nd preseason game, but that he should be fine by the time the season starts.
