The Defensive Tackle
The Vikings have proved that DT is the most important position on defense.
Look at their defense, top to bottom. Outside of the Williams brothers inside, is there anybody on that defense whatsoever that scares you? I really don't think so. Put our DTs in there instead of the Williams and this is a bottom 10, perhaps even bottom 5 defense. But Minnesota is very deep at DT, and the two Williams guys in particular have proven that they alone can pretty much suck up the entire OL, opening the DEs for multiple opportunities a game, allowing the LBs to roam free, and thus putting minimum pressure on the secondary. It all starts with the DT, and I think that's what's standing between the Chiefs themselves having a top 10 D. |
They were last in Pass D last year. I agree with you, but how do you explain that?

You say our DTs are holding us back from the top 10 ranking, but our DTs have played better in the first two games than the DEs. Boone alone has played better than Hali and Wilkerson combined.
I may agree with your point, but I'm not convinced DT is more important than DE. |
But right now our defense is in the top 10 :(

If you look at other pass defense stats, Minnesota's pass defense was actually pretty good. They were 16th in completion percentage, 13th in yards per pass, 5th in QB rating, and they had 21 INTs to only 15 TDs. The one thing they didn't have last season was a pass rush, but so far this season their pass rush has been great. |
The Vikings are the anti-Chiefs on the DL.
For years KC had problems drafting and developing DTs, but hit it with the DE's (Allen and Hali). Minny is just the opposite they have solid DTs, but missed their drafts as bad as KC. Erasmus James didn't light it up his rookie year and got hit by injuries his 2nd year. Right now the former 1st rounder is 3rd on the depth chart. Uzeze had a good rookie year but has since been a typical USC bust. |
I would take a top five DT over a top 5 DE in all starts in the middle they are so much harder to find and draft. A DT can make everyone around him look better he will free up the LB's to make plays as well as the DE's. A great all around DT can be huge for a team there is a reason the Bears D started going down hill with out Tommy Harris last year.

How nice would it have been to trade up in 2001 and got Shaun Rogers and in 2002 took John Henderson. Oh well I can dream.

A good example is the Ravens SB team, would you rather have Siragusa & Adams in their prime or McCrary & Burnett??? Its no question in my mind. |
