K-Mart quits selling ammunition
 

Guess they need to quit selling Kool-Aid too. And oh yea those dreaded knives in the houseware's department too. Also better round up those baseball bats in sporting goods because they may turn some poor child who can't his hands on a gun into a killer. Over in the automotive department they better get rid of all that motor oil and chemicals before they give someone cancer. I guess I won't being going to K-Mart anymore that place is just to dangerous for me.;)

Wallmart came out and said that there is no way that they would be following K-mart on this policy.

Who on God's green earth would shop at K-Mart, anyway?

That place makes Wal-Mart seem like Bloomingdale's.

Well ironically Clint I shop at K-Mart for shotgun shells. They carry (carried) the brand I like at a good price. Guess I won't be doing that any more. For that matter I probably won't step foot in a K-Mart again.

By the way, I haven't seen this in the news. What is the source for this info?

DETROIT (AP) -- At Kmart stores across the country, shoppers cruising the aisles for diapers, garden hoses and microwave popcorn can also find ammunition for everything from pellet guns to handguns.

But some of those shelves soon will be empty as Kmart phases out the sale of handgun ammunition over the next three months.

Company officials made the announcement Thursday following meetings that included company executives, a prominent gun-control advocate and victims of the 1999 Columbine High School shooting.

Kmart stores have not carried handguns since the 1970s, but still sell hunting rifles and other long guns. For some time, the Troy, Mich.-based company has been under pressure from gun-control advocates to stop selling firearms.

In November 1999, talk show host Rosie O'Donnell resigned as the company's celebrity spokeswoman because of her strong support of gun control.

And in December 1999 the company withdrew an application for a license to sell rifles and shotguns at a new store in New York after protests by an anti-gun group.

Company spokeswoman Julie Fracker said the sale of firearms and ammunition had been under review as part of a merchandising strategy by the company's new executive team for some time.

''Obviously we consider ourselves a socially conscious business, but this was a business decision made in the best interests of the company,'' she said.

Three Columbine survivors and filmmaker Michael Moore, who is best known for a 1989 documentary that assailed General Motors Corp.'s actions in closing a plant in his hometown of Flint, met with Kmart executives in Troy for four hours Wednesday. They requested that the ammunition be removed from shelves.

Moore said he is happy with Kmart's decision.

''I'm totally, totally stunned by the response from Kmart today,'' he said.

Fracker said the phasing out of ammunition began Thursday. The end of handgun ammunition sales at the chain's more than 2,000 stores will depend on when the stores' current stock runs out.

The National Rifle Association did not return messages left Thursday seeking comment.

A spokeswoman for Wal-Mart Stores Inc. said similar changes were not in the works for the nation's No. 1 retailer.

Wal-Mart stores, except for those in Alaska, do not sell handguns but do carry hunting rifles and related accessories.

Ok from this article it's only handgun ammo that they're not carrying any longer. I guess the gun control people get what they want, one way or another.

My guess is K-Mart wasn't making much money on handgun ammo so they can stop sales and look like heroes to the anti-gun crowd. What a bunch of weasels.

Makes alot of sense...:confused: since all I have to do is click a couple of buttons and I can buy any ammo I want on the net...

As a matter of fact that's where I buy it. No tax, no shipping charges, beats the hell out of K-Mart, Wal-Mart or any gun store in town...

The internet ammo stores do there security thing, but it would be easily bypassed....

How do you get it shipped Joe? Do you have a FFL? And where is this site you buy from?

There are severa places to buy ammunition on the web. A friend of mine uses this one. www.ammoman.com. One does not need a ffl to order ammunition but you must be 21 years of age.

K-mart sucks anyway. I'd MUCH rather go to Target or Walmart.

I doubt I've spent more than $20 in K-mart my whole life so they can do whatever they want - Maybe Rosey O'Donnell had something to do w/ that crap.
