Iowa DEs
 

Iowa could be sending four DEs that I know of to the Draft this year. Every one of them would probably be drafted, too.

These projections are premature, but still.

DE Kenny Iwebema (projected 3rd)
DE Mitch King (projected 4th)
DE Bryan Mattison (projected 5th-6th)
DE Matt Kroul (projected 6th)

Really interesting, especially if the Chiefs decide Wilkerson isn't cutting it as the #3 DE, which is entirely possible. Wilkerson's tenacious and has done a fairly good job in pursuit, but he can't get to the QB.

The Chiefs need a third DE that can make some noise. I don't think they should draft one early, because they've got about 5 other major needs that take precedence. But I do think if they decide to expend a 6th or 7th rounder on a DE, they should go for Mattison or Kroul.

Iowa obviously has a good program going on, and it's entirely possible that Mattison or Kroul have suffered from the Kolby Smith effect -- being good players behind even better players, hurting their numbers and playing time.

Just a consideration.

To be pretty honest I was disappointed with our DE's this year. Mattison was solid but not quick enough to consistently get after the QB. Kenny has the physical tools but simply hasn't performed.

Kroul is decent, but the real player is Mitch King. Played DT in college, but only weighs 265 so he would definitely be moved to end. He was one the quickest DT's in the country this year, always gets penetration. I hope that quickness is enough at DE in the pros, but it's hard to say.
