Interesting post from the Coalition

BigRed posted this yesterday but I don't think it received enough attention. Very interesting stuff.

I spent about 10 minutes on the phone with a couple of front office people who are singing the same tune

Based on what they're telling me, I think the coaching staff and front office folks are in denial about their role in this mess. They, and rightfully so, point to the age factor of certain players as the main culprit. But there doesn't seem to be any blame placed on the coaching staff for the lack of half time adjustments in all the losing games, it's just that they don't have enough top-flight players.

I wanted some objective feedback so after talking with the Chiefs I talked with a defensive coach with the Raiders and a defensive coach from the Steelers, two personal buddies who kindly gave their input for this thread.

They both said what we already know, the Chiefs offense is predictable, easy to read and stays the same from first half to second half. They don't make adjustments.

The Raiders coach was very kind in his verbage but in translation, he says the Chiefs Oline is junk!! He likes Croyle's physical skills but thinks it will take time to see if he's the real deal and the Chiefs should keep him because he should only get better. Overall, they point to both talent and so-so coaching.

Here's what I sense for an off season forecast for the Chiefs based on my conversations, it's nothing that is predicted or that was directly told to me.

1. Retain Carl Peterson... but: I think the possibility looms that the Chiefs will bring in a GM or VP of football operations to mold the rebuilding process with draft picks, free agents and sharpening the scouting department. For some reason, I don't see the Hunt family forcing Peterson out but at the same time, I think Clark is going to force some kind of change, perhaps keeping Peterson as the President of the Chiefs organization.

2. Herm Ewards and Mike Solari are here for the duration, I'm not sure about Gunther Cunningham.

3. Eddie Kennison, John Welbourn, Casey Wiegmann, Jason Dunn, Kris Wilson, Ty Law are gone.

4. It's way too early to really predict how the off season will play out but if the Chiefs get all the new and young pieces they desire in regards to players, it's still going to take another two season before they make the playoffs again. With getting younger, it takes time for those players to mature into the system.
But at least, it's new talent and as fans it should be fun watching them grow into New G Contenders... G stands for generation.

I don't buy this "it takes 2 years for players to grow into a system" shit.

Fit the system around the talent for once in this organization's history.

You mean coach to the players strengths instead of forcing square pegs into round holes? Novel concept!

Half time adjustments? Now things are getting all twisted, it makes me flustrated.

Does your friend have any friends who work for Iran? Perhaps the front office needs a suitcase nuke?

Why on earth would we get rid of players that we can't replace? Kennison is our second-best WR. No doubt about it. Law is slow, but he can still play. Wiegman doesn't match our system, but he can still play. And Dunn? DUNN? Dunn is the best blocker in space on the team.

Wilson and Welbourn can be and should be replaced, but as for the others, we need replacements before we go and cut any of them.

The same reason he got rid of TRich. I noticed he made the pro bowl for the Vikings today.

Yeah, I saw that, too. Good for T-Rich. Bad for Herm and Carl. But hey, it's not like we need a fullback or anything...right?

Nice cooter.

That is an interesting post on the subject.

CP was used to having a coach he didn't need to babysit(DV).
He fails to realize herm needs firm direction.
this team would succeed if someone smart was directing.
as the saying goes, this is chess, not checkers. herm is playing bingo and CP is sitting next to him.

No need for any of those circus clowns on this team.

Rain Man 12-18-2007 08:56 PM

I'm really going to miss that guy.
