QB Rating System is Just Weird

Random note relating to Brady and Manning shows just how weird the QB rating system is. I can't say I much care who has the all-time QB Rating Record -- that's not exactly up there with the hallowed records of professional sports, but I really wonder how this formula can work this way:

BRADY FALLS SHORT ON PASSER RATING: The passer rating stat is one of the more complicated stats in the NFL. Consider that Tom Brady finished the season with a passer rating of 117.2, the second best mark in NFL history behind Peyton Manning's 121.1 rating in 2004. Yet when comparing Brady's 2007 stats to Manning's 2004 stats, Brady had more completions, a higher completion percentage, more yards, more touchdowns and fewer interceptions.

WTF.

Maybe it has to do w/ the TD to yardage ratio...

Yards per attempt is a huge factor in QB rating

QB rating is mostly a measure of efficiency. Peyton only had 497 attempts and a 9.3 avg, compared to Brady's 578 and 8.3. Peyton had a TD about every 10 passes, Brady about every 11.5.

They need to add a variable for weather vs. dome.

Yeah, New England is one receiver away from just saying screw it and playing a spread offense. I've even seen them run from shotgun a few times. It's gonna happen. When you throw slants and screens in place of your running plays for short yardage it's going to bring your QB rating down.

New England plays the same style as a college team like Mizzou or something. its a fun offense to watch though. to bad more NFL teams dont play like that, obviously it can work.
