Cards trade Scott Rolen for Troy Glaus
Which to me is kind of like trading a Ford Taurus for a Mercury Sable.
Rolen's shoulder is all kinds of fucked up, and he hates LaRussa, so he was a no go in St.L, but Glaus isn't nearly as good of a fielder and is just as injury prone (although he has much more power and could give Pujols some protection in the lineup). |
So it's official?
They've been talking about trying to get it done sometime this weekend, pending physicals. I'm curious as to how much if any cash we had to send Toronto to finish the deal, last I heard Rolen was owed something like $14M more than Glaus on the remainder of their contracts. |

He sucked in the playoffs and World Series before last year but he will always be remembered by me as the guy who got the hit that put us ahead to win the World Series. He didn't make the impact that we would have liked but he is now part of Cardinals lore. Happy Trails Scott!

i remember when rolen was the best 3rd baseman that ever lived

On the radio down in Springpatch yesterday, there was a rumor that the Cardinals were considering trading for Bay and Wilson from Pittsburgh for some relievers? Anybody else hear this?

Matt Morris. |
The Cards drafted Jack Wilson, it's not that surprising.

Does a box of Roids come with Glaus??
|
A sad, but necessary, move. Personally, I would have rather kept Rolen and traded LaRussa, but since King Tony was staying, Scott had to go. I don't think he'll ever be the same again, though, so probably just as well to be rid of him.
Both of them have been behaving like children. |
This deal would have been off the chain about 5 years ago

Glaus could at least provide us with some power. Rolen was a goddamned banjo hitter the last year and a half. |
Good move IMO. Rolen 1/2 year guy last few years, border line bust for the money.
Glaus has been very good. steady? Roids? |
Troy Glaus can barely walk due to his leg/feet problems, Scott Rolen's shoulder might be irreparably screwed up.
This one comes down how healthy each of them will be in the coming years. |
