Anime Geeks...........
What would think of me embedding anime shows on Chiefs Planet?

I love anime, but it is VERY hit or miss. Some is absolutely jacked up, bad ass, hardcore entertainment. Other is some of the worst ****ing crap ever imagined. Not being in the scene, it is very hard to tell what is good. It'd be nice to get some recommendations on some good stuff, without accidentally downloading some sick Asian porn anime, or wasting 20 minutes to find out some movie just sucked ass.
Last anime I watched was Appleseed. I have yet to see the sequel. I do remember watching Akira when it first came out. I had actually read the comic book, so a little bit of herb and a couple of hours made a fabulous first time anime experience. |
Hellsing Ultimate , Death Note, and Elfen Lied( has nudity but it's really good). If you can get over some issues like Giant Robots. I'd suggest code Geass if you can look over that, it's a good story

I've heard good things about Princess Robot Bubble Gum and the Horny Radioactive Plant. :p

Cool, thanks!
May have to re-engage my Netflix account. |

Cowboy Bebop, Trigun and Full Metal Alchemist are all very good, and all were on Adult Swim at one time or another. Samurai 7 is also fantastic.
As far as movies go, most anything by Hayao Miyazaki is golden. Spirited Away is one of the best animated films ever made. Really, the only Miyazaki film I wouldn't recommend is Kiki's Delivery Service. I myself am kind of partial to the work of Satoshi Kon. Paprika and Millennium Actress are both spellbinding. Perfect Blue is also excellent, though it's extremely violent and is sometimes hard to follow. He made a series called Paranoia Agent which, while extremely strange, is worthwhile. |
If you don't mind depressing movies, I'd also recommend Grave of the Fireflies.

As far as Akira goes, I remember watching the movie the first time and thinking, "Wow, this is bad ass." It didn't make a lick of sense, but it was visually stunning. I watched it a second time after reading the manga series and hated it.
That movie loses so much in translation. Imagine if they made a film adaptation of the Cliff Notes of Lord of the Rings. That's what the Akira anime is like. |
