How bizarre. I got good customer service on a flight.

I generally expect to be treated horribly by anything involved with an airline, but I got a call this morning from Northwest Airlines. My flight got canceled, and they rebooked me on another flight and sent me an automated message. It actually is ending up as a better flight for me anyway.

THEN, I got a call from a real live person at Orbitz. They notified me that my flight was canceled, and asked if I needed any help getting a new flight. Unless they were going to charge me or something, I thought that was pretty cool.

And by the way, how do you get a call at 7:30 a.m. saying that your 1:05 flight is canceled due to weather, but you'll be getting on a 2:20 flight that's still on? I don't quite understand that.

Most likely the 1:05 wasn't full or near full? That's my guess.

Ah. So you think the good customer service is really guilt-laden outreach?

phisherman 09-09-2008 06:58 AM

i'd say that your original flight was drastically undersold. southwest has done it to me a bunch of times.

See. You just thought you were special.

Rain Man 09-09-2008 07:13 AM

But...but...they told me I was special. And a valued customer. Though I must admit that the weather cancellation is odd when it looks pretty nice outside. Maybe it's bad weather in Detroit or something.

Parents scheduled a flight in November, it has been rescheduled close to 20 times now.

They must not be valued customers.

This flight is on Northwest, and I decided that Northwest must have more legroom than United. On United, they put you in your seat and then they put another person on your lap. On Northwest, I actually was able to open my laptop almost all the way on my trip out here.

I was on stand-by for a recent flight, but managed to get on-board at the last minute (2A). Unfortunately, all the overhead space was full at the front of the plane. The flying waiter took my bag and found some space at the back. After we landed and taxied to the gate in Denver and the folks in the first row had left, he stood up and told everyone to get out of the way, and he scampered down the aisle to retrieve my bag.

I thought it was a nice gesture.

Was the new flight coming in from a different city? Likely the first was was grounded in the beginning of its route and had no chance to make its connections. The second plane was probably coming from an area unaffected by weather.

I remember the days when you recieved good customer service from an airline and it wasnt shocking.

Air Travel has become a huge drag.

That was my first thought.
