Elijah Johnson signs with KU

Didn't see it posted

LAWRENCE -- Elijah Johnson, a guard from Cheyenne High School in Las Vegas, on Monday signed his letter of intent to play at Kansas.
He is the second signee for KU in the class of 2009, one that, with forward Thomas Robinson, is shaping up as an unusually athletic class.

"If (Johnson) was on our team right now, he would, hands down, be the best athlete on our team," Kansas coach Bill Self said.

Johnson (6-foot-2, 183) is the No. 27 player in his class according to Rivals.com. He chose KU over Oklahoma and Texas.

"We've been recruiting Elijah for a long time, tried to get him to commit last year and couldn't get it done," Self said. "He's a phenomenal athlete, one of the best athletes in the class. He's not a true point guard, but we think he can become that. He's just a running, jumping, scoring, fast, active guard right now that can play point, but is more of a combo than a point."

Self said Johnson still needs to "learn how to play" but doesn't expect that to be a problem.

"We think his potential is very, very high," Self said. "He has a chance to be a terrific player. Athletically, he'll have very few equals."

Kansas is still looking for at least one more commitment from the class of 2009.

This is a great confidence boost to his players. What a stupid thing to say.

Meh no big deal. If he's that great of an athelete they should be fine with it and welcome him with open arms.

After watching the first few games I would say the statement doesn't necessarily say much about how great of an athlete he is.

Not if Henry signs with Memphis first.

Never heard of him.

If we sign either Wall, Henry, or Cheeks then this will be a better class than that Chalmers, Rush, and Wright class of 2005. Either way, KU dominance in the future is still imminent. Except for probably this year.

Yeah, this year could be a little rough...I'm very excited about the future though.
