My favorite MVP candidates so far: two dominant DTs.
I'm serious.
The Jets are a team with a historically iffy defense, but they are an elite team against the rush this year despite having a fairly weak linebacking corps, and only a couple other folks on the DL even worth caring about. They force every team they've played to go to the air, which is mostly fine by them because they've got a fairly talented secondary.
Everybody is blown away by Favre's play on the offensive side of the ball, but considering the talent he's surrounded by I think it's more remarkable what Jenkins has done for the other side of the ball.
But I think the leading candidate for MVP this year is NOT Kurt Warner, who is throwing to two All Pro WRs, or Matt Cassell, who's doing the same, or Peyton Manning, who's doing the same, or Adrian Peterson, although he's not a bad pick. I like the Titans' Albert Haynesworth.
The Titans have a stout defense, but he makes them elite. No interior OL has really handled him very well except for the Jets yesterday. He is monstrous, incredibly strong, and very fast. He's not just the block of granite that Jenkins is, although he's that, too. He's also a frequent force in the backfield, and I think he's been more valuable to his team than any other player in the league.
