Anyone own a nissan xterra?

http://www.nissanusa.com/xterra/#/ph...terior-photos/

WE have a 2005 Jeep Liberty Renegade 4x4 and are looking at replacing it...it has almost 50,000 miles

We do not like the look of the 09 jeeps, and have talked about waiting one more year to see what the 2010 models will bring, but then we saw the xterra..

We have only owned Chevy, GMC or Jeep so we do not know much about Nissan

Any one have opinions?

We owned an 02 for a couple years. They're okay. I probably wouldn't buy another one.

Here's why:
1. They're little 4x4's. They're geared lower, so despite a smallish engine they get mediocre gas mileage.
2. We were used to some decent features, such as those found on the Pathfinder LE. They're nowhere to be found on an Xterra.

All that said, they're dependable vehicles. The newer ones may provide more enjoyment for you. Who knows?

Gracie Dean 11-28-2008 11:22 PM

the little 4x4 isn't a problem...its what we like. We don't do much hard stuff and really don't need the 4x4 option, but like it

It is comparable to our Liberty Renegade so we like the style.

just don't know much about the engine ect... for example, our father in law will never buy another toyota as the cost is high when it needed work and he said the timing chain problem was a deterrent.

So, mechanically, the xterra was sound?

It was fine for us. Your FIL should stop taking his vehicles to the dealership for work. There are plenty of small shops who can do fine work on Toyotas who don't cost outrageous money.

It looks like Ford's little 4X4
Nissian and Ford have hooked up before

We always take our vehicles to the dealership for work.

Wed, took my Jeep in for new tires...they had buy 3 get one free
They do all the maint. work and oil changes. They are the only ones who have worked on it...its just something we do and always have.

That is where I saw the xterra

FIL has a huge Chevy truck now...runs on deisel

Horrible vehicle, it can't even go up a hill without flipping over.

I have an '03 6-cyl. with 58K mi. Never had any major issues with it. It gets 17 MPGcity, not great, but it's really a truck with a back seat and interior. The same as their double cab chassis, so it ride's a little stiff. Mine's a 2WD.

I just had the tranny pan gasket and A/C compressor pulley replaced, both under (extended) warranty, otherwise would have been about $1,000

So, no major complaints, but haven;t gotten up there in the miles yet.

my 99 Passat has 82K miles and every time I go in, there is like $1,000 worth of work that needs done. I just stopped taking it in, change the oil myself, and the day it craps out I'l call a scrapper to pick it up where it lies and go buy a Prius (or an Audi RS :D )

I sold Nissans for a while, the Xterra's are really nice and although you wouldn't think so, they have more room than the pathfinder cause the pathfinder has 3rd row seating whereas the xterras have only 2 rows. Nissans have a great warranty and don't have to be serviced till 125,000 miles, they are great automobiles IMO, I sold several Xterras while I was there and some pathfinders and if you choose between those 2, I would go with the Xterra, I think the Pathfinders look better from the outside, but the Xterras have them beat on the inside.

like ask to see the sales invoice if your buying a NEW one, its the law they show you the invoice. Go from that and make a offer, a man I sold a pathfinder offered 800.00 about invoice and got it, he was paying cash. Also make the salesman go to the manager 3 times to change the offer then the manager will come and talk with you and you can talk even a better deal than you may have been offered before. We would take 3 "pencils" before the manager would come back and see if he could help make the deal. There are more but I am at work right now and can't go over everything. Like what down payments really are and how you may seem to be getting a good deal for your trade when in reality you may have got screwed somewhere down the line.
