The world is coming to an end...

Do you know how hard it is to find a decent slot car racing set? Walmart? No. Sears? No. Where have we come when the staple of my childhood is hard to find? I'm ashamed as an adult who can't pass the "slot-car, good-times" on to the next generation.

Oh, I found one, but holy moly why has this perfect childhood gift gone away? I really want to know!

I am sure you will have to look online I had some good times with mine when I was little, my dad even had some that he had when he was a kid, although his would go slow as shit and start smoking and stinking. (that was bad ass in it's own right)

You had to be quite the "electrician-mechanic" to keep those suckers running more than 5 laps. From using an eraser to clean the contact pads, to bending the metal joints for the best conductance, to getting the track at just the right angles... it required quite a pit crew.

But man, when it got going, and you could clear that stretch up the wall and back down, man that was the coolest shit in the world.....

Iowanian 12-23-2008 04:17 PM

Yep. I started off with an Eldon set as a kid that kicked ass. I then moved to the smaller scale with the plastic guard rails, etc., and it was still a blast. I'm not sure how the set I bought for my nephews will perform, but if it sucks I'll be pissed.

They never had the guard rails when I was coming up, and the controllers we're so juiced that you couldn't really employ any kind of strategy to actually race because the car would go flying off the track at the first major curve.

That was awesome...because if you set it up right....you could hit people with the cars and then blame it on the track.

Bugeater 12-23-2008 04:39 PM

Heh heh; that's right up there with the diplomatic breakdown between you and your friends racing on the hot-wheels track, and you get pissed, pull the track apart, and start beating the shit out of each other!:D

At that point, the cars become projectile weapons, and you take one section of track, put the car in the middle, and do the ol' "belt-snap slingshot"!ROFL

Good times, good times...

blueballs 12-23-2008 05:07 PM
