BIG BEN, BACK AT PRACTICE

Eight days after being taken off the field on a back board after suffering a concussion, Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was back at practice on Monday.

Per ESPN.com, Roethlisberger said that he expects to play on Sunday, when the Steelers host the Chargers in a rematch of a November 16 game at Heinz Field.

Last time around, Roethlisberger completed 31 of 41 passes for 308 yards in an 11-10 win, which was marred by a bizarre reversal of a late-game defensive touchdown that had no impact on the outcome of the game, but that resulted in a tremendous impact on the amount of money that changed hands in Vegas and elsewhere.

In the first game between Sunday’s foes, the Steelers churned up 410 yards of offense to only 218 from the Chargers. But Pittsburgh was flagged 13 times for 115 yards, in comparison to only two penalties for five yards called against San Diego.

RUMORS FLY OF KANSAS CITY PRESS CONFERENCE (AND THE RUMORS ARE WRONG)

We’ve received several e-mails from folks who claim that the Chiefs will be giving former G.M. Carl Peterson a sendoff on Monday afternoon, and then holding a press conference on Tuesday morning with a currently unknown agenda.

And, of course, the speculation is that the Chiefs will at that time announce the hiring of a new General Manager, presumably Patriots V.P. of player personnel Scott Pioli.

We’ve done some snooping, and we’ve learned that there is no press conference scheduled for tomorrow morning. Also, the Peterson event is set for tomorrow afternoon, at 3:30 p.m.

If nothing else, this mini-ruckus regarding the rumor of a press conference further proves our points (from the SportingNews.com Ten-Pack) that owner Clark Hunt is going about his search the right way — with minimal leaks. Browns owner Randy Lerner would be wise to pay attention.

Yes, because the rumors of a press conference are false, Clark Hunt is dragging his feet. That's right.
