McDaniels Begins Building Staff

By Jake Grilley
DenverBroncos.com

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. --
Head Coach Josh McDaniels has begun to assemble his coaching troops. On Tuesday the Broncos officially announced the hiring of several assistant coaches.

The team officially named Mike McCoy as offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach, Ed Donatell as secondary coach, Wayne Nunnely as defensive line coach, Adam Gase as wide receivers coach and Mike Priefer as special teams coordinator.
McCoy had been with the Carolina Panthers for the past nine seasons as quarterbacks/passing coach. In those seasons McCoy was instrumental in developing undrafted quarterback Jake Delhomme into a Pro Bowler.
Donatell spent time as an NFL assistant or defensive coordinator from 1990 to 2007, and he has coached 12 players who have earned Pro Bowl recognition. He spent the 2008 season working under Tyrone Willingham at the University of Washington, but before that spent time with the New York Jets, Atlanta Falcons, Green Bay Packers and Denver Broncos.
Donatell took over as the secondary coach in Denver in 1995 -- a unit that ranked last in the NFL in 1994 -- and led them to a top 10 ranking in each of his five seasons with the Orange and Blue. He was also part of the back-to-back Super Bowl wins in 1997 and 1998.
He has had success as a defensive coordinator in the league -- his units have ranked in the top 10 against either the run or the pass five times from 2000 to 2006, and his Falcons defense led the NFL in 2004 by allowing its opponents a league-low 30.2 percent on third-down conversions. That team also led the league in sacks for the first time in Falcons history, won the club's third-ever division title and advanced to the NFC Championship game.

Nunnely spent the last 12 seasons as defensive line coach for the San Diego Chargers. Under Nunnely, the Chargers ranked in the top 10 in the league in both rushing yards allowed per game and rushing yards allowed per carry in seven out of the past 12 seasons, including twice leading the NFL in rush defense.

Prior to joining the Chargers, Nunnely spent two seasons with the New Orleans Saints. He also coached the in the collegiate ranks for 20 seasons including four seasons as head coach at UNLV.

Gase was an offensive assistant with Nolan last season in San Francisco and has also served as a quarterbacks coach and an assistant with Detroit for three seasons. He also served as assistant in the collegiate ranks at LSU.
Priefer spent the last three seasons as special teams coach for the Kansas City Chiefs. He has also served as a special teams assistant for both the Giants and Jaguars.
Prior to joining the professional ranks Priefer spent 16 years at the collegiate level, coaching at Northern Illinois, Virginia Military Institute, Youngstown State and Navy.

I love our coaches being hired by other teams. It's so good to see that other teams are also incompetent (especially division foes), and that we aren't making these stupid types of decisions anymore.

And I know this is from Monday, but I'm guessing that they just edited it because I hadn't heard of anything official....

Ok, I'm Officialy about to go out of my ****ing mind. WTH are they waiting on?

EyePod 01-21-2009 10:08 AM

They have to be firing Herm. I can't imagine all of these lateral moves of our coaches mean anything else. There is just no benefit to keeping Herm around, esp. when you're used to working with BB.

I'm really worried. I swear our plan was this:

PLEASE, PLEASE TRY AND TACKLE THE GUY WITH THE BALL. IF YOU DO, I'LL GIVE YOU A PIECE OF CANDY!

It's really funny too, cause the Patriots lose coaches to other teams every year, but that's cause they're good. Our coaches are terrible (unless other teams blame Herm completely), and they're still getting picked up. We are the Anti-Patriots.

When it happens we will give praise and thanks to our lord and savior Scott Pioli. And it will be good.
