Do you think recent Super Bowl winning coaches...

Do you think recent Super Bowl winning coaches are very good/great coaches, or do you think they are rather average and got a little lucky?

Coughlin - is he a very good coach, or did he get lucky the D peaked and Eli overachieved?

Tony Dungy - a very good coach, or did he ride on Manning's coat-tails?

Cowher - A very good coach, or did he luck into Rothlisberger after screwing up the QB position for over a decade?

Belichick - A very good coach, or did they get lucky finding Brady on the 2nd day of the draft?

Gruden - A very good coach, or did he just get lucky altogether?

Billlick - A very good coach, or did he get lucky a great defense fell into his lap because of the GM?

Vermeil - A very good coach, or did he get lucky the rest of the NFL wasn't prepared for the greatest show on turf and Kurt Warner?

I think to win a SB you have to have a combination of factors.

I do think you have to be a credible coach to win one.

If you win more than one, then we can talk about being really good, or better.

it doesn't matter how good the coach is if the team does not have any great players. it takes great players to win the big one. dungy had his manning, BB his brady, etc. etc. etc. they are all good to great coaches with a team full of good to great players. it takes the whole package to win in todays NFL.

I think there is a lot of luck involved. Mainly injuries, a lot of the time the two healthiest teams at the end of the year are the ones in the SB.

The one thing to keep in mind about Gruden's SB win is that he was playing a team he knew like the back of his own hand.Have you seen the replays of that game where Tampa's defense knew the offensive plays before the Raiders even snapped the ball?

Why the hell Callahan,Gannon etc. didn't change that up I'll never know.

It's what makes this year's game interesting as well, two former coaches going against a team they worked for just 2 years prior.

Obviously none of those coaches are better than Marty because they dont have as many wins as he does. :)

Generally Super Bowl coaches are good coaches. Some are great. Almost all involve luck (see tuck rule, immaculate reception, music city miracle, etc.).

Do you feel they are all excellent coaches? Would you want Pioli to hire Gruden, Vermeil or Billick?

Most are lucky bc somehow they got a franchise QB and a strong defense to carry them to the Super Bowl.
