Personal Checks Honored Overseas?
Quick question -- does anyone know if a personal check, or a bank cashier check, would be honored by a foreign bank? In this case it would be sent to someone in Asia.
I assume so (though I imagine it will take a while to clear), but thought maybe someone on here might know for certain one way or the other. |
Does the person hold an account in that country? Check out XOOM Network.

Or sending a cashier's check. This isn't offshoring of funds or anything. It's also an absurdly de minimis amount of money, so nobody wants to incur wire fees or anything. |
My father in law sent his driver in Mazatlan a check last year that took several weeks to clear. Since wire fees are out of the question, maybe a travelers check?

The delayed clearance isn't that big a deal. With a Cashier's Check it should go a bit faster. That's probably the right route then. |

I've done it in Germany, but they gouged the hell out of me.
It was something like ten bucks for the foreign transaction. |
Go to the post office and get then send an International Money Order. They should be able to cash it at their local post office. Cost is $3.85 for up to $700
