Buress turned down $29.5 mil offer from Giants

Plaxico Burress, who was released by the Giants on Friday, apparently walked away from a good deal offered by the team before it cut ties with the wide receiver.

Burress had the chance to earn $29.5 million over the remainder of his contract, but he turned it down because he no longer wanted to be a Giant, The Newark Star-Ledger reports:

According to someone familiar with the negotiations, the team offered Burress the chance to earn all of the money that was written into his contract from here on out. All he had to do was end his fight for the money he forfeited over the last four weeks of last season (base salary, roster bonus and signing bonus) during which he was suspended for “conduct detrimental to the team” and start playing by their rules.

Burress said no to the deal, so the Giants said no to his further employment with the team.

Funny how none of us would ever turn down $1 million dollars, let alone 29, and he does it like it's an insult.

Doesn't this mean his legal issues are pretty much null at this point?

I don't see how the Chiefs can pass on him.

journeyscarab 04-04-2009 05:29 PM

i dont understand why he would reject that? he would still be on a super bowl caliber team. stupid either way.

They must be going for the insanity defense and they are going to use Plexiglasse's rejection of the Giant's contract offer as proof of insanity.

I'll bet his agent is some kind of pissed off. That's a couple of mil he lost too.

I'm pretty sure he wasn't supposed to have a concealed weapon.

Coughlin can be pretty strict. I suspect this is the main reason for turning it down.

New York has the toughest law in the country against possession of a loaded gun. It will result in serious prison time. Plax is a celebrity, so who knows...

Major Bloomberg ushered through City Hall some of the toughest gun laws in the nation. Bloomberg let it be known that his law -- which even makes a legally registered gun in New York State illegal if it hasn't been registered in the five boroughs -- was the ultimate weapon in firearm protection.

"Last year, our Administration succeeded in pushing through a law that gives New York the toughest penalty in the country for carrying an illegal loaded handgun," said Bloomberg. "Now, if you are convicted, you will serve a minimum of 3˝ years behind bars -- no exceptions."
