Yahoo Sports grades the Chiefs Draft: A-

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_yl...yhoo&type=lgns

http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/...50x50c/kan.gif
Kansas City Chiefs
Picks: DE Tyson Jacksonhttp://l.yimg.com/a/i/us/sp/fn/default/full/p_note.gif, DT Alex Mageehttp://l.yimg.com/a/i/us/sp/fn/default/full/p_note.gif, CB Donald Washingtonhttp://l.yimg.com/a/i/us/sp/fn/default/full/p_note.gif, OL Colin Brownhttp://l.yimg.com/a/i/us/sp/fn/default/full/p_note.gif, WR Quentin Lawrence, RB Javarris Williamshttp://l.yimg.com/a/i/us/sp/fn/default/full/p_note.gif, TE Jake O’Connellhttp://l.yimg.com/a/i/us/sp/fn/default/full/p_note.gif, K Ryan Succophttp://l.yimg.com/a/i/us/sp/fn/default/full/p_note.gif.
Positives: Jackson and Magee.
Negative: Needed some skill position help for Matt Casselhttp://l.yimg.com/a/i/us/sp/fn/default/full/p_note.gif.
Bottom line: A-. New Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli turned his first three picks into key foundation players with the selections of Jackson, Magee and by trading for Cassel at the start of free agency. One thing Pioli learned well from New England’s Belichick is to use your top picks on talented big men like Jackson, who is a carbon copy of Richard Seymourhttp://l.yimg.com/a/i/us/sp/fn/default/full/p_note.gif (the No. 6 overall pick in the 2001 draft) and then build around those guys. Add Jackson and Magee to Glenn Dorseyhttp://l.yimg.com/a/i/us/sp/fn/default/full/p_note.gif from the 2008 draft and suddenly you have the makings of a monster line. Get a few linebackers to go with it and the Chiefs stand to have a terrific defense by 2010

Finally, an 'expert' who knows what he is talking about!

Sincerely,

Exactly. If yahoo sports says it was A draft then we can all relax and celebrate. They are the best in the business.

Agreed. I certainly feel much better now thanks to Yahoo.

Commence printing 'em.

On the other hand, it is nice to see a unbiased source say that Scott Pioli didn't absolutely flush the draft down the toilet. Based upon what has been posted here the last 24 hours, you'd think Scott Pioli had just engineered the worst draft in the history of the NFL.

Agreed. Totally.

I agree with this grade.

Draft grades are stupid.

I saw a poll recently where most fans thought you couldn't judge a draft for three years. That sounds about right.

Sure-Oz 04-27-2009 08:10 AM

I agree giving it a few years to see how it goes...i like that RB we drafted late and the WR.

ChiefMojo 04-27-2009 08:59 AM

Most draft grades I've seen have put KC around a B. So the draft in the eyes of those that rate them have been a lot better than many of the FANS have rated.

I have officially had to turn off sports talk radio and limit my web browsing due to pessimistic asshole fan opinions. From what I remember the Chiefs were in most of the games they lost and everyone blamed the losses on coaching and DE play. Well, We have new coaches and we drafted the best 3-4 DE available. We tried to draft down, but noone wanted our pick and the money it would tie up. We drafted a position that would earn the money paid if he turns out to be an all pro...unlike an all pro OLB. We did not need to pay a Rookie LT big money because we already have one and we can fill RT with a free agent pick-up or one of our youg O-lineman can step up and fill the void.

The reality is that we will not know for 3-5 years so all the bitching and bickering is senseless fodder. SO EVERYONE SHOULD SIT BACK AND WATCH!

Good post. Right as I was reading your post, Petro came on 810 and said that everyone keeps asking him what he thought of the draft. He said he has one answer: "Ask me in four years." That's about right. While this year's draft might not have the pop of last years draft action, I have a good feeling about the players selected. But again, only time will tell.

I don't think it's an A-, but a good solid B sounds about right.

The negative Nellys aren't going to like this thread...!
