Best Radar Detectors?

Okay, so I recently got a newer car. Faster than my old one.

I am somewhat of an aggressive driver, and I tend to "massage" the speed limit. I figure one bad ticket is the same price as a good radar detector. If I avoid one ticket because of this thing, then it has paid for itself. If I avoid two, then it was definitely worth it.

Do any of you have one? Are you happy with yours? Are they worth a damn?

Every site I try and find research on is some bullshit "Add to your cart" website that is trying to sell me one. I want answers, damnit. And I want them now!

Thanks.

Valentine.

Any particular model? And why do you like it?

I borrowed a radar detector for a road trip one time and all the damn thing did was drive me nuts. I wouldn't gamble with my driving record with one, that's for sure.

The Valentine One. With current technology no radar detector is going to give you a free pass like it did 20 years ago, but Valentine's are consistently at, or near the top in consumer reviews.

doesn't matter against laser... it might detect it, but you're already busted.

Valentine and Escort Passport 8500 are supposed to be among the best. I think it's just easier to not go more than a few mph over the speed limit.

Boo. I bet you didn't have sex because it was the best form of abstinence.

Masturbation is the key to success.

But seriously, my bro has a cobra and I've never seen him get pulled over when it's on.

I have an Escort 8500. It doesn't really do jack shit. Most cops use instant-on radar, which ****s you if you're all alone. If they're using it in traffic, you're going to know, because everyone will be slowing down anyway. Or, they'll just use laser, which detectors will only let you know AFTER you've been tagged.

Seriously, I'd just save the money. All my 8500 does is tell me where the closest grocery store or automatic door is.

I still drive like an idiot, and usually about 10 over the speed limit. Haven't had a ticket in years, but it's not because of my radar detector.

Yeah, and make sure your registration is up to date and the title is clean.

It's really simple, and no one does it. Look at what's ahead when you're driving instead of only focusing 15 feet in front of you.

I don't know how many people speed past me long after I've already seen the cop and slowed down. They slam on their brakes right as they pass and get pulled over every time.
