Interview at Kids Camp: Thigpen bows to the inevitable

More from Thigpen interview that was NOT printed:
"...not to mention I really need a job and if not for the CHiefs, I probably wouldn't have one. I figure in this town, the best thing for me is to be the backup, cuz everyone loves the backup. Cassel's a strong kid, I hope..er..know he can take a hit. He's a tough guy. I'm rooting for him..." |

(Although with him no longer being able to eye-**** Gonzalez on every play, that might not be entirely true...:) ) |
Agreed, I was just having a little fun. I can't imagine too many NFL teams that would be scrambling for Thiggy were he to be released, but he did show guts and intelligence last year, so there's that. I can live with Croyle as number 3 as long as our offensive line is good enough to ensure that we don't actually have to see him play. God help us all if we have to depend on Croyle. Plenty of talent, no durability. I'd guess that whenever his contract is up, he's a goner.

Sounds like Thigpen's following the proper backup's course of action, though, the old, "I have to be ready to play and do my part," blah blah blah. Of course he'd rather start--who wouldn't--but he knows how it works. He's being replaced by a former backup, who got his shot when he replaced an injured starter, who himself was a former backup who got his shot when he replaced an injured starter... It's the NFL Circle of Life. :) And, as said, everyone loves the backup. If Thigpen has to come in and looks great for a game or two, it'll translate into a Billy Volek-style contract down the road. And in this economy, he's probably well aware that being paid to hold a clipboard certainly beats bagging groceries like Kurt Warner. |
Watch Croyle win the two in camp. That would be so funny. I know it's not likely, but it would be pretty darn funny.
And CROYLE DOES have the better arm. He can THROW the deep pass. Thigpen can not. |

There is alot more to throwing the deep pass than just being able to throw it hard and far. It takes just as much touch as a short pass and Brokie hasn't done that very well either. Thigpen can stay upright and healthy, that gives him two legs up on Brokie any day. Your right though...that would be funny. |

There's no question Croyle is a much more accurate passer than Thigpen. His only real negative is injury problems. |

Well, I won't argue with you since I don't really remember the stats but, to me, saying your more accurate than Thigpen is like saying your the smartest reerun on the short bus. Croyle never has impressed me in the pro's. |

Brodie needs to gain weight. If I had one legit bitch about him, it would be that he should be eating 10 times a day to gain weight. If he could just get to like 210, it would make the world of a difference. His arm is there, and he can operate under center MUCH more efficiently than Tyler Thigpen. Give him a decent line, better QB coaching ( yes, CURL destroyed him ), and healthy pissed off Larry Johnson, and he would be just fine. He NEVER HAD ANY of this. God this kid must hate Chief fans, we have been hard on him. |

Welcome to the past 3 years...been saying that for too long. There are tons of great athletes who have the tools but can't stay healthy enough to PROVE they are good enough to do the job. That's part of it. |
