Jake Plummer returns to rip Shanahan

Hell yes. Twist that knife.

http://broncotalk.net/2009/07/jake-p...talks-broncos/

“Nothing amazes you or surprises you too much in the NFL. I’ve seen great football players, including myself, kind of cast aside because some coach feels that’s the way to go. Then you see Coach Mike Shanahan get pushed out. It’s always fun to see that stuff happen. It’s always different.

The NFL is always moving and shaking trying to find the next winner, the next guy who’s going to do it. That’s kind of how the NFL has gone. It’s soured quite a few veterans that I’ve talked to, because it seems like it’s a youth movement in a way. You can pay a younger guy less to do almost the same job a vet does.”

“I think they got a good coach in there right now. I’m excited to see how they do. I like that quarterback they got, Orton. I think he’s a tough kid that’s gonna, kind of like myself, just lead, he’s not going to dazzle you in any way, but he’s going to lead and through all his grit and determination he’ll pull out a few more wins than maybe someone else might.”

Plummer sounded in good spirits about it, joking about the mega-mansion Shanahan has been building in Denver,

“Well he was what, only 5′4”? So he wants people to think he’s 5′6”, something like that?”

Plummer continued, “If I saw the man, I’d go shake his hand. He gave me a chance to put a stamp on my career of a winner and get some good wins in there. I have to live with myself. He’s gotta live with himself down the road. So I don’t have hard feelings and I don’t hold grudges. He got his due there, I think it was a year past due. He should have been gone a year before and I’ve already said all that stuff. But he’ll find himself somewhere coaching again and cutting some other good quarterback for another young kid. Who knows?”

Jake must be laughing his ass off on how stuff played out in Denver.

The last time the Broncos were in the playoffs, Jake took them to the AFC championship game...since then "the next Elway" (Lol hahahahahahahalololol) took over and blew like eight games thst would have gotten them into the playoffs in three years and they have recently moved on from him to a lesser qb and are poised for a top five draft pick.

He should have played for Tampa...still wonder why he didnt...he wasnt great, but he was a decent qb and had a knack for winning games.

Shannahan was kinda dumb for not letting Jake finish out 06 as the starter...imho....but what do I know? I know why he did it, but you dont pull a quarterback thst just lead you to the afc championship game just because you drafted a qb in the first round.

ROFL This is a perfect example of a post when rival fans (we all do this) have revisionist views of history when it suits them.

Jake led Denver to the AFC Title game? Wow - you NEVER read that around here during the time, or shortly there after.

Jake took them there, but then Jay failed miserably... hmmm. And, the wild swing in defensive and rushing performance had nothing to do with it? Ok... carry on. :D

Jake originally tried to deliver this to Yahoo Sports but it was picked off by Broncotalk.net.

I see what you are saying, but I also have always thought a qb does factor in to a defense and running game.

Denvers running game has ALWAYS been productive, so dont use that as an excuse...they have always maintained a good oline and that has enabled them to be productive through many running backs, it has also helped them keep their qbs healthy and productive.

The defense played better when the team held the persona of a contender...I always believed Cutler to be immature and not a great "TEAM leader" the defense he was handed was just fine, a top unit .

Just more for Jake to laugh about.

MS should never have had power over defensive personel or else they would still have players such as Trevor Pryce and would have gotten a Al Wilson replacement when he wasnt brought back, especially when Vilma became available. Lets not even talk about how he basicaly gave away Lynchs position, not due to competition.

Jake Plummer took a Cardinals team to the playoffs remember? They surely didnt have a top defense.

some qbs DEFINATLY effect their defenses play whether it be by attitude, field position, level of leadership, matureness, etc.

Add that alltogether and you have a leader of a team that got worse the longer he lead it.

In this respect I believe Orton will be much better for the team...I am willing to wager their defense will get better each year he is the qb.

Not saying it plays as big a part as a coach, or elite players or general talent across the board...just saying an immature qb such as JC doesnt instill massive confidence like a fearless gunslinger like Plummer did...I remember Broncos fans proclaiming him the next Elway too. That guy had a moxie that Cutler might never have...

BossChief 07-17-2009 06:42 AM

really though...all Jay had to do was win the final game of the year in any of the last three and his team was in the playoffs...I can remember before the game last year against SD when Cutler and Rivers were walking to midfield and Rivers bitchslapped Cutler with his eyes. That right there told me he didnt have it, yet anyway, and that Rivers was twice the player.

And the hits keep coming.

Enh, I don't buy the notion that your QB affects how your defense performs... look at the ravens and there are several other examples.

And, look at the production on defense and in the ground game during the 3 years with Plummer and the 2 with Cutler.

Under Plummer, they always had over 2k rushing as a team... they never reached that mark with Cutler and the defense fell off statistically as well.

I can't explain it, other than to say Shanahan became a madman with RBs... trading or moving any that topped 1,000 yards rushing, starting with Portis - look it up. Defensively, they're poor performance had more to do with the revolving door at Def Coordinator and failed high $ FAs than the QB.

Enh, this is nothing really... other than a sign that it's a slow week in sports.
