Poz: The Worst Football Game Ever

That Twitter fanbole went like this: “Cannot wait to watch Chiefs-Raiders game Sunday. Don’t want to jinx it, but that has a chance to be the worst game ever played.” Well, as these things go, it inspired quite a few responses from people who totally disagreed and brought up other recent games that they felt certain were worse than this week’s Raiders-Chiefs game. There was the Browns-Bills catastrophe a month ago. There was the Redskins-Lions blight on society. There was the Rams-Lions horror show. There was every Lions game last year. And so on.

But, I found myself shaking my head. Those were dreadful games, no doubt. Someone mentioned the classically bad Redskins-Cowboys Monday Night game when they both came in 0-4 — the Cowboys won that game 9-7. That was some kind of bad.

But I think this Chiefs-Raiders game has a chance, a real chance, to be the worst ever, and it begins with the rivalries point: The Chiefs and Raiders make up one of official rivalries in sports. This isn’t some nondescript matchup between Tampa Bay and Carolina. Sure, those two teams on any given day could give you a harrowing football game. But they can’t give you that transcendent bad football experience that we want.

The Raiders and Chiefs can.

Nah thats a crock of shit!

Even at their worst, the Chiefs and the faiders are a rivalry that ends up in close, hard played games. Unless the Chiefs fail to convert on 3rd down, it will be close and a lot better than the media jackasses predict.

The Chiefs-Raiders "rivalry" stopped being relevant about 35 years ago, because they never play meaningful games against each other any more. One or the other has always sucked since 1973, and right now both of them do.

I'd much rather watch the Colts-Patriots game tonight. That's a game that actually means something.

I get the impression that most of the people on this board hate Marty Schottenheimer. But at least when he was head coach, the Chiefs ALWAYS beat the Raiders.

It'll only be the worst game ever if we lose. If we win, it'll be the best game ever.

Exactly. Just like the last time we played them.

I agree, unless this game means something like the late 90's early 00's its pretty much just like any other Chiefs game.

Meh. Rivalries dont have to have huge implications. Some of my best chief memories are from when we would play the raiders in the late nineties early 2000s. Maybe thats just because i was a kid.

This is crap. The Chiefs and Raiders had very meaningful games from 1990 thru 1994 when both were playoff teams.

Yep.

I have to say, this was the best game I've ever seen.
