Banner year for nfl-forecast.com

As many of you know, I've been doing NFL playoff predictions since the Star BB days. In 2005, I started my website nfl-forecast.com and implemented the user-friendly software.

Here are my "unique site visits" for the month of December (when the playoff races really heat up) since 2005:

2005: 929
2006: 4,298
2007: 3,735
2008: 9,393
2009: 32,079 (so far)

Here are the stats for access to the software, which represents a hard core user:

2005: 214
2006: 316
2007: 173
2008: 424
2009: 1,946 (so far)

The big difference this year was some mentions on the 5th Down Blog of the NY Times, that in turn came from my partnering with advancednflstats.com.

I know these numbers are pretty small in the internet world, but the increased traffic is still rather gratifying to me, considering this is just a hobby.

Thanks to those of you that have expressed interest in my work from the beginning.

That is really cool. It will be interesting to see how much it continues to grow in the coming years.

Very cool... it's fun to watch your Internet baby grow like that isn't it?

Nice dude. I've used your stuff many a time.

The market is kind of limited to hard core fans. Maybe 500 to 1000 per NFL team?

32 teams * 500 fans * 6 visits per month = 96,000 visits per month

So maybe the maximum hits are 100K to 200K per month. I'm maybe at around 15 to 30% of market penetration. Just a guess.

Yep. Don't you have a fantasy site?

In the early years, a lot of the traffic was coming from this site. 2006 was the year we backed into the playoffs, so I'm guessing I got a bump from that.

The funny thing is I spent a lot of effort in 2006 and 2007 trying to promote my site by doing some search engine optimization and promoting my site on football outsiders and other BB. With limited results, I just decided to let the web site be what ever it was going to be.

Partnering with http://advancednflstats.com in late 2007 was the key move. That site gets decent traffic and Brian has been very generous in promoting my work.

I'm no mathemortiatrist but I predict you'll eventually sell that hobby for a hefty fee. Big fan Seedy.

Way to go man. One of these days after you sale your site to one of the $gazillionare internet companies we'll all be able to say we knew ya back when.

DaFace 12-30-2009 04:35 PM

Congrats on the growth, man. I probably account for 20-30 of those this year. :)

This is great, Mr. cdcox.

I predict that, very soon, you will be contacted by the NFL for the purpose of establishing a partnership. Stand by for the call and, when it comes, negotiate like a pirate king with a bad temper and severe jock itch.

Always appreciated your data cd. With some decent marketing, you could do well on a site.
