Cowboys won't use franchise tag on Austin
We need to do the poison pill contract so Cowboys can't resign him. He and Bowe would be an excellent combo, Austin likes our coach and credits him for his development, no draft compensation, and we can eliminate Dez Bryant from draft discussion. It'd also help Cassel. I feel pretty strongly that we should spend the bucks to get him to KC.
Per rotoworld: Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones indicated that the team will not use the franchise tag on restricted free agent Miles Austin. "We don't need to use the franchise tag," gloated Jones. "How many times have you seen another team give up a one and a three?" Well, less than two years ago, when his very own team gave up a one, a three, and a six for the dried up carcass of Roy Williams. The Cowboys could be inviting a "poison-pill" situation with Austin if they don't sign him to a long-term deal before the start of free agency. Feb. 18 - 9:58 am et New offseason wish list: 1. Berry 2. Austin 3. Peppers I'd be happy for one of the three, ecstatic for two of the three, and would probably lose my s*** if we got all three (not happening, I know). |
He's a restricted FA, right? So, you would want to give up our #5 overall and a third rounder for Miles Austin?

They can high tender him and make someone give up a 1st and a 3rd. There would be no reason to franchise him and pay him a shit ton of money. |
I'm just glad Jerry is being so smug about it. It's almost guaranteed to piss Miles off.

Sorry, thought he was a UFA.

Especially now with that plane crash and all.
