Top Notre Dame recruit dies on spring break
I went on spring break 3 times and I saw these kids climbing around on the balconies. Monkeying around 3 stories up did not look smart and one kid died from falling the week before I got there. But those were clearly potential darwin awards and I don't for sure, but seeing it first hand and how careless they act climbing around 3+ stories up and my first instinct tells me that this is another darwin award, but I could be wrong.

St. Xavier offensive lineman Matt James, 17, died after falling from a third-floor balcony at a hotel according to police reports. He was in Panama City on vacation. The 6-foot-6, 291-pound tackle had committed to play football for Notre Dame this fall. He was selected a first-team All-American by USA Today after leading St. Xavier to a No. 4 state ranking. James played in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Jan. 9 in San Antonio, Texas. St. Xavier officials said several hundred friends and faculty, many holding candles, gathered at the school's stadium after receiving the news. "For this many people to appear on the first night of spring break is a testament both to Matt and to the strength of the St. X community in difficult times," said Mark Motz, a high school spokesman. James also played on his school's basketball team, which won a district championship last month. |
That's sad. The kid has his whole life in front of him. :(

It seems his stock has really fallen.

Young bulletproof people are always good for a little much-needed comic relief.

IMHO, I don't think something like this should discourage the Chiefs from drafting him when he becomes eligible.

Sad story. Young people are so reckless, it's a wonder that any of us make it to thirty.
RIP kid. |
Something seems to happen every year in PCB. You get 200,000 drunk high school and college kids and shit happens. Some kid drowned when I was there and then the other year another one died of alcohol poisoning.

Touchdown Jesus must of not liked the recruit

Any time I read stories of college-age kids who fall from balconies, or top floors of malls, or off escalators--usually all due to drunkenness and/or showboating--I find it hard to find real sympathy.

Invincibility. Don't believe it.
