Upgrading from Win 7 home premium to pro
 

Do you need to do a clean install if you want to upgrade from Win 7 home premium to Win 7 pro? It is a brand new computer, never turned on. How do you do the upgrade? I hear it is different from past upgrades. I've searched the web, and it says the anytime upgrade ended last Saturday. We have keys for a pro upgrade; will that be enough to upgrade?

This is our first Win 7 comp, and don't want to screw it up.

I don't know for sure, but I believe all you have to do is enter your serial number for Pro somewhere, and you're done. As far as I know, the "guts" of Windows 7 are the same, regardless of what version you have. They just turn on and off features based on your license.

Windows Anytime Upgrade shouldn't have expired, but the discount may have. You should be able to do it provided you are going from 32 bit to 32 bit, or 64 bit to 64 bit.

I just got off the phone with MS support; we will need to do a clean install since we have a volume license due to our being a 501c3. Thanks for the feedback.

we are 501c3 too... how much did you get windows 7 for? although we dont have the computer power to install windows 7 on every comp

Depends on your EA... most likely $30-$40 (Home/Pro, respectively) per PC.

i found the upgrade to Windows 7 32bit and 64 bit for $8.. i highly recommend this site to any non profit organization.. VERY CHEAP SOFTWARE..cheapest i have seen.

That is where we we got our software licenses. We also got the free upgrade to Office 2010 due to MS software assurance. We also got Adobe Creative Suite 4 for ~$150-160; we plan on getting Adobe CS5 as well.

You have to be a non-profit (501c3 corp) to use techsoup. Computer prices are so low now, we just buy new.

i know this.. i have been buying software from techsoup for work for the last year or more. Great way to upgrade software at extremely low prices. Thank God for Techsoup and other sites like them
