Charles will get the ball more...count on it

As the season progresses Charles will get the ball more. A lot of people calling in on the radio last night were bitching that he didn't carry more.

One thing people tend to forget about JC, as awesome as he is, he has a tendancy to fumble. TJ does not. Had the rain not come I think you would have seen JC carry the rock more. But with rain pouring down and a sloppy, sloppy field + a 2 TD lead I think Weis felt TJ was the better option. Not because he would bust the big plays but because there is less chance of a fumble and turnover in those conditions.

We went into a shell for the 2nd hallf because of the rain and having a lead. Maybe too much of a shell. But I think the weather and the score and JC's tendancy to let go of the ball may have had something to do with it.

Also it wa game one. We don't want Charles mangled after 1 or 2 games.

Just a thought.

I think they're just trying not to LJ him to death.Yes I want to see him get more touches but I can't say that they're stupid for taking it easy on him. We'll see I guess but I bet as the season goes on he will get his.

i think they want to keep Charles around and healthy until the team is good as well.

you burn a bunch of carries now and Charles will be "dead" in a year or 2 when the team is actually ready to compete.

they better do the same with DMC

We have to be careful though. We don't want to get a tendancy that whenever Charles does get in the game he gets the ball. I think it was he who got thwarted for a 6 yard loss on the last 3rd and 4 play we had. We have to be careful not do telegraph that when JC is in he is the one getting ball.

I don't think they were limiting his carries as much as he was a victim of circumstance. The offense went 3 and out 7 times last night, and they didn't have a drive go more than 8 plays. 49 total plays doesn't leave a whole lot of opportunities to spread around, and in the end his 12 touches, as few as that seems, were nearly 25% of the team's total. Sustain a couple more drives, and up that team total to, say, 65, and that would bring him up to 15 touches for the game, which is I'd say the lower end of where you'd want him to be (15-20).

the best way to do that is to be able to throw the dam ball

True. But you and I both know the second he comes in the game and we throw the ball people will go into a temper tantrum for having Cassel throw the ball and not handing it off to JC.

Well to be honest,I was of the opinion that he was not a every down type RB when we drafted him.I have somewhat backed off of that because of how he has played but I still do not want to beat him to death to prove a point.

Mr. Laz 09-14-2010 05:20 PM

which would you rather do, run DMC and Charles to death this year and get 8 wins instead of 5 or wait and use them to make the playoffs over the next couple of years.

i still expect to have a top 8 pick next year and grab a QB so burning DMC/Charles now and losing out on a QB is a double whammy imo.

ZootedGranny 09-14-2010 05:26 PM

Well, there's saving Charles some wear and tear by spelling him with Jones, and then there's running Jones into the back of the lineman on first and second, leaving Charles to either stand and watch from the sideline or trying to make chicken salad out of chicken shit with a 3rd and 8 draw play.

boogblaster 09-14-2010 05:47 PM

Charles .. will get the ball more .. Jones is the middle runner .. its one of the best one-two punches in football ....

not really. the sun is a main sequence star (C-class if memory serves) with not enough mass to go 'nova. it'll go red giant then white dwarf.

JD10367 09-14-2010 05:57 PM

1335, 1210, 1119, 1312, 1402.

That's Thomas Jones's rushing production for the five seasons prior.

If the biggest problem the Chiefs have is whether to run Charles or Jones, well... that's not much of a big problem.

And, as has been said, you really need two running backs nowadays.
